Nice hotel situated in very center. It is 5 minutes walking till plaza del Sol. Thу room was good, but a little bit small for 3 persons. WC is clean, but small. Wi-fi is working great, also you have small balcony where you can smoke. By nights you can't hear a noise from a street, but on the morning it is possible to hear well a staff and guests going up and down by stairs. But you can put a half of pillow on your ear and sleep well. In general we have enjoyed our stay in hotel and price. nearest metro station is GRAN VIA.

This hostel is in a great location and felt secure. However the room we stayed in was next to the reception area and it was noisy until 11.30pm when the staff went home. The telephone was on the other side of the wall to the room and was ringing into the early hours of the morning. The people in the room above were up until all hours and had to ask them to be quiet. The walls are paper thin and didnt have much sleep at all during the three night stay - about two hours a night. The rooms were adequate a little tatty in places however this is reflected in the price and the excellent location. If booking this hostel please ask for a room upstairs or away from the reception area and this will guarantee a better stay and some sleep!

We had a great experience at Hostal La Plata. The room was small, but adequate and clean. The linens are worn and old, but clean and sufficient. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location can't be beat--just 1/2 block from a major metro stop and within walking distance of many sights, but in a safe and secure building. We highly recommend this, particularly for a young couple seeing Europe on a budget! It's even near the major grocery/department store, El Corte Ingles.

For a great location, then you might choose La Plata but remember it's just a hostel. The rooms had no heating in January (the wall mounted unit didn't work) but fortunately the heated extract air from the restaurant on the ground floor was pumped through the steel tubes running up the 3m by 5m 'courtyard' outside our 6th floor room - so it wasn't too bad! I'm not sure if the temperature would drop below 30C in the summer if there was no AC. The scariest part of the stay was the complete lack of any fire escape plan or means of escape. The internal stairs were narrow, the corridor route to our room tortuous and I'm sure the steel-extract tubes would have come away from the walls if we'd tired to use them like fire-poles! Having said all that, the staff were friendly and all spoke English and the rooms were spotless, and cleaned daily. Also, with an internal facing room we didn't hear any noise from Gran Via, just the neighbour's TV until 1am and the restaurant serving breakfast from 8am.

This Hostal is clean enough if a little tatty in parts and the staff are pleasant. The location is good and as the rooms face away from The Grand Via so do not suffer from the noise of the traffic. That said there is very little sound proofing in the rooms so if you are a light sleeper you will hear all activity in the neighbouring rooms, showers being run, toilets being flushed etc. I would ask for a room upstairs to avoid having people above and hearing all the comings and going in the entrance foyer. there are a number of similar establishments in the same block and if arriving after 11.30ish there is a concierge who will show you to your hotel and give you your key.
Beds are a little short and you need a euro everytime you want to open and shut the safe.
The red light area is right round the corner so if you are offended by the sight of girls on corners then be warned. That said the police station is in the same street and the street is very busy and didn't feel threatening.
Overall cheap and cheerful but remember the ear plugs.
