This was a terrific hotel. Small room, and spotty Internet, but friendly, helpful staff, excellent breakfast with delicious fresh fruit, and prime location-- easy -walking distance to great sights and restaurants. Loved the bathroom, too!

A typical city hotel, small but adequate bedroom, nice modern bathroom with walk in shower. Comfortable bed and just about enough storage space. Could do with a bar in the evenings, although the Opera Square with lots of bars and restaurants is only 200yds away. Breakfast in the basement room is mostly "continental" and of good quality, especially the coffee.
Best feature is the location which is very central, 5 minutes walk to the palace, cathedral etc.

First of all I must emphasise on the excellent location of this Hotel, also the very helpful and friendly staff and finally a very nice breakfast.
On a negative note however, what was totally not acceptable was the noise that goes on throughout the night, banging of waste receptacles, cars and bikes, people shouting outside the hotel. Although I requested a room on one of the upper floors, I was given a second floor one.
the junior suite we were in was nice and spacious, only complaint is that there is no hot water in the wash hand basins.
After our fourth night, we checked out at 7.30 am, however we were told that breakfast starts at 8.00 am on Saturdays. Had we at least been offered a coffee, I would not have mentioned this issue.
Finally I must stress on the fact that if the Meninas Hotel owners invest in some sound proofing, especially double glazing, they can expect much better ratings from future hotel guests.

Room Tip: ask for the topmost floors

Fantastic location on a small quaint, pedestrian friendly street within 5 minutes walk of some of the liveliest areas of Madrid. Rooms were very small, and sound insulation nonexistent. You will definitely hear your neighbors coming and going. And if you are in a room facing the light well in the middle of the building, you'll also be aware of corridor lights across the the other side of the building turning on and off throughout the night because the curtains are translucent and do not actually block the light. TV was broken, they gave up on trying to fix it. Nice front desk reception though.

In the Hotel Meninas exists different type of rooms, from double mini with a 135cm bed to a special junior suite with a king size bed. The customer choose the type of room.

The bedroom windows have shutters. If the shade is lowered completely was never a ray of light. Besides are curtains.

Usually, we stay in 5 stars hotels. But the trip to Madrid was a birthday gift to my father. My father is a communist, so we could not stay in a 5 stars hotel this time. So that is why I choose the Meninas. It was the best middle class hotel of Madrid according to my guide book Lonely Planet.
Organisation:
When we came, we got the keys very quickly. But then, my room was not yet cleaned, the lady was still there, so we moved to my fathers room, which was full of smoke, very dirty, cigarettes everywhere, we thought that some guest was still there.. So we took our lugages, we moved back to the reception. The receptionist gave us new rooms.
Since that, every 3 evenings my 73 years old father could not get into his room, he had always to go back to the reception to let recode his key.
The last morning, after finishing our shoppings, we both had to contact the reception because the keys were K.O.
Rooms:
Very clean, very small and very, very cold. The TV was not working in both rooms, we had to call the receptionist to repair it. The bathroom was quite nice, we had to wait 1 minute before the hot water is coming, the showerhead was so economic, that there were almost no water coming from it.
There was no daylight in the room, my fathers room was so dark, that he could not read his books the evening, even if all the lights in the room were on.
Location:
The location of the hotel was excellent!
Other:
We ordered a taxi to the airport at the reception. The receptionist explained us, that it was a very good idea, hotel works only with serious taxidrivers. When we came from our shopping, the taxi was already there (30 minutes before the fixed hour). We took the taxi 15 minutes before fixed time. He had the oldest Skoda Octavia in town (481.000km), he did not speak any foreign languages (we speak Czech, English, French, German and Russian). When we entered to the car, there was already 3,80€ on the display. Of course, at the airport, he added the airport supplement 5,50€.
Conclusion:
The city of Madrid is very interesting, a lot of things to see, spanish people are realy very, very nice.
We were very positive and happy with our visit.
But I can not imagine the quality of Madrid four stars hotels, if Meninas has such a positive reviews and is mentioned in world known guidebooks.
I´m sorry...

Dear Customer,

First of all, thanks for your comments about your experience at the Hotel Meninas.
All feedbacks from our customers helps us improve day by day.

The Hotel Meninas has different types of rooms, from junior suite to special single room, and interior rooms overlooking a lovely courtyard and outdoor rooms. The room type is chosen by the client when booking.
Each room has a temperature controller, and the client can choose the degree.
We apologize for the incident on television, although we solved in the time of arrival.

Regarding the taxi service outside the hotel, always called you must pay a supplement as part of the airport supplement. Although the taxi arrives before the customer does not have to leave before.
