Good location for sightseeing; within walking distance of the Royal Palace, Plaza d'Espagna, Temple of Debod on the one side and Sol/centre on the other side. Very close to metro Opera with good connections. Breakfast was good, staff was friendly, rooms were clean.
However, I expected a bit more from a 4-star hotel, for example a larger bed in the standard room. We booked the standard room on the Meninas website, but the bed was smaller than was shown in the pictures on the website. Our room looked like a mini room, but we were told by the receptionist that it was in fact standard.

After extensive research we chose Hotel Meninas for a five night stay in Madrid. A historic building located on a narrow cobblestone street, close to major attractions, a half block from the Opera Metro. I opted for a room facing the street for the light and ambiance so took ear plugs for evening. Garbage is picked up at 1AM in Madrid! . Frankly other street noise did not bother us and we kept the windows open. Room was of adequate size, very clean and had all necessary amenities. Staff was helpful and multilingual, but did need some encouragement to heat up some soup for me as I was recovering from a bug. Breakfast included breads and pastries, tortilla and eggs, fresh fruit. Negatives: Meninas overuses a strongly perfumed household cleaner and it's everywhere and the previously mentioned coffee ( I love strong coffee).

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street have big windows, juliette balconies, and lovely views but bring ear plugs i...

Stayed at Hotel Meninas in September, 2012. It's located a few steps away from the Opera metro stop and within walking distance to the cathedral, palace, shopping, restaurants and bars.

The hotel decor was fun and modern. The rooms are clean, comfortable and have all the basic necessities you need when traveling. Plus it was very quiet (our room faced the interior courtyard space), The rooms are not large (but then few European hotels are), but it had a nice little sitting area, which was a nice surprise. The hotel staff, namely Angel, was so nice and very helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations.

As two friends traveling, would definitely recommend Hotel Meninas.

Good location within walking distance of quite a few sites. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We asked to change to a room at the front of the hotel which was ready for us straight after breakfast the next day. Buffet breakfast was very good with lots of choice. The room was fine with a range of complimentary goodies in the bathroom. I liked the fact that they only changed the towels or bedding if you requested it. Too many hotels do it daily as a matter of course which is a terrible waste of resources. The staff also made a real effort with Halloween by decorating the reception area with cobwebs and spiders. They dressed up and encouraged guests to have a drink of 'blood' (sangria) and a photo with 'the family'. Great fun!

Room Tip: rooms at the front of the hotel have more natural light as others look out onto a light well.

Ten days into our Spain trip, we arrived at the Hotel Meninas to find our reservations had been canceled by the hotel. Three (3) rooms for four days were canceled! After hours and much frustration, they located a rundown hotel a good distance away to accommodate us. It cost a 20E taxi ride to reach it and an additional 20E, per room each night to stay there. We were told that a room would be available for us the following day at the Meninas, only to be told the next day that there again were no rooms. Two days later, and another 20E taxi ride, we got to return to the Hotel Meninas. Our room had graffiti on the wall, was so small two people could not pass in front of the bed at the same time, the bathroom door hit the toilet, we had a shaft instead of a window and you could feel and hear the Metro because we were on the first floor. When we asked for a replacement room, we were told the hotel was "full". The hotel did not offer to reimburse us for the additional monies spent (160E) because "it wasn't their fault" and their attitude was disgraceful!! We were left with a very unfavorable opinion of Spain because of this!

The location was excellent, and we really appreciated how close the hotel was to the Teatro Real (Opera house) and the Palacio Real, plus walking distance to Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor. The hotel staff were also friendly and helpful. The room, although a junior suite, was expectedly small, but very clean and street noise was not a problem (though the internal walls are rather thin). The airconditioning worked wonderfully (and silently). The only negative thing (but the dealbreaker for me) was that there was not enough water pressure.

This hotel is well located, spacious, clean, and full of handy amenities (safe, hair dryer, breakfast buffet). However, the wifi is only in the lobby and we could hear all movements from the hallway from our room. too bad because it is otherwise, a lovely hotel.
