We spent 5 great days in Lusso Infantas which is a short walk from Plaza De La Cibeles - the Barajas airport bus terminus. Incidentally, we had a brush with disaster when, as we left Madrid we queued for the airport bus (with other strangers) where we had been dropped without knowing the the pick-up point was a few hundred metres away on the other side of the enormous Cibeles roundabout. Lusso Infantas is very near Grand Via and the Metro and bus routes. There are lots of good restaurants within walking distance and unfortunately we didn't eat in the hotel so we can't comment on their food.
Our room was clean and our request for a quiet, non-smoking, low room with a double bed was fully met. The reservation through www.booking.com worked perfectly and I was surprised that we didn't have to pay in advance. The rate of €374 for 4 nights (without breakfast) was good value. The spacious safe was easy to use and easily held my camera, our iPads and my laptop. We had excellent, inexpensive breakfasts in a small patisserie (pardon my French) just up the road. The Starbucks opposite the hotel wasn't great.
The staff at Lusso Infantas were very helpful and friendly. They were a great source of travel advice and they printed out our boarding passes on request. This is the LGBT area of Madrid and it was refreshing to see open PDAs by gay couples on the street - just like straight couples. If only all cities were so open and accepting.
Our room wasn't exactly spacious and the only problem was the heating / air-conditioning which we never mastered. After two nights we realised that, quite sensibly, there was a microswitch on the window that tripped out the air-con if the window was open. The room was too hot sometimes. The bathroom was excellent and the shower was particularly good.
All in all we would stay at Lusso Infantas again. 5 days wasn't enough to see all that Madrid has to offer so, hopefully, we shall return!
