The very centre of Madrid (Sol and Callao areas) do not seem to have a single five star, so instead they have rather nice 4**** hotels.

The Hotel de las Letras is one of them.
Located in the very centre of the city, inside a beautiful palace in one of the main arteries, the Gran Vía. However, despite its location, the hotel itself is perfectly quiet, and restful nights are a given.

Since I was there for a romantic anniversary trip, I took the (apparently only) Duplex Suite. The double two terraces, one of them with a jacuzzi, sounded very appealing.

The Front Desk is scantly manned (one or two staff members), and the poor souls seem to be doing an awful lot of work, since they are tasked with normal Front Desk duties, plus bell-staff duties (mostly bag-check; they didn't seem to have anyone to take the luggage to the room, but I may be mistaken), and concierge duties.
However, despite their ridiculously high work load, they are all wonderfully friendly. They deserve a huge shoutout for their fantastic work.

The lobby itself is also small, so two couples waiting to be checked-in will fill it up. I noticed an odd colour pattern in the lobby (one I didn't particularly agree with, but understood as quirky and modern) and wondered about the rooms.
We took one of the two elevators up to the top floor, the 7th, and walked to our corner room.

When I opened the door, I was relieved to see a very tastefully coloured room. Quirky, yes, but very tastefully so.
The room was ample, with modern furniture. The first floor of the room contained a little hallway with a huge closet, the bathroom (with a bathtub), a nice living-room (sofa, two rocking chairs, coffee table, work desk, and flatscreen TV, and access to the two terraces (one with a jacuzzi, and the other with two reclining chairs and a low table). The nook beneath the stairway to the second floor had a little table, two chairs, and a short helper with a coffee machine... it was a cozy reception area for two.
The upper floor only contained the bedroom itself, with the King bed, and yards of large windows with spectacular views of the palatial rooftops along the Gran Vía and surrounding streets.

We found it to be a very nice, well categorised 4**** hotel, with very diligent staff, and really cute and spacious rooms (ours, at least). It was not as luxurious as it was quaint and welcoming.

We enjoyed our stay at Las Letras Gran Via. The hotel is conveniently located close to Madrid's key tourist attractions, transport, and Tapas bars. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The hotel staff are very helpful and professional.

We've just returned from a 4 night stay in Madrid and are so glad we chose this hotel.

Firstly, the location is excellent. Everything is within walking distance (shops, Plaza Mayor, Mercado San Miguel etc). And it is 2 minutes from the Metro for further away attractions. For example, we got the Metro to the Zoo.

The hotel is very tastefully designed and I was impressed with the gym because it had free weights instead of the usual basic machines in most hotel gyms.

The staff were all excellent and made our stay even better. We were told we had breakfast included even though we didn't pay for it. This was a lovely touch and breakfast was also great.

I would stay here again without a doubt!

Stayed here twice and really enjoyed it. Great location. Close to metro. Such a cool architecture. Everything done with style and creativity. Super good service. Everyone really cares. Lovely breakfast and the restaurant has great innovative food which is also very creatively served. The bed a little too hard for me but fixed it with an extra duvet on the mattress.

We had a little difficulty finding the hotel so we rang the reception and a young man came out to our car and guided us there. All rooms were very clean, trendy and well furnished. Our bedroom had a terrace with 2 sunbeds. The breakfast was good offering a range of fresh fruit, meats and cheeses etc. There was also eggs on offer to order, but no other hot food. The hotel is situated right in the heart of the city so is very handy. We had a great stay!!
