One of the best quality/price ratios in Madrid. Got a really nice bedroom with a side street balcony/veranda. Excellent to feel/see Madrid's young people going about (movida).

Staff is is nice, welcoming and helpful.

This is a modern design hotel and each room relfects that. If you are not into modern interior decoration please look somewhere else.

Very quiet and silent in spite of being situated in one Madrid's main arterie.

The hotel is very centrally located on Gran Via - the outside was welcoming you can see the lobby bar and restaurant from Gran Via. The reception staff was extremely good - efficient, knowledgeable, polite and friendly. The room was nice size, warm, well equipped(No Kettle but this is standard for Spain) tastefully modern décor, comfy beds, good lighting - excellent. We had a room overlooking Gran Via which can get noisy but this doesn't bother us. We only had drinks and some ice cream (5 euros for two scoops - ouch - and it wasn't that great). The bar staff were great but the waiters had attitude issues. The lobby was lovely place to have some drinks.

Room Tip: If you don't like noise - ask for a room not facing Gran Via.

Last minute opportunity to go to Madrid. I had never been before and I don't speak much Spanish. Needless to say, I had no idea where to stay.
I used TripAdvisor and did a little online research and stumbled onto Hotel de las Letras.
It's in a great location, on the Gran Via and very close to the Prado and just a 5 minute walk to Plaza del Sol.
The restaurant down stairs was great, the food was delicious and the staff both at the hotel and the restaurant were very friendly and willing to speak to you in Spanish or English.
The rooms were clean, comfortable and had great views of the Gran Via.
I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: I chose the terrace room with the jacuzzi. It was very clean and was wonderful after walking around...

We really enjoyed our stay here, spending a few nights both before and after walking the Camino di Santiago. The staff was very helpful, in fact helping us print our tickets to the Prado from my cellphone. We had a nice room with terrace on one of the top floors, which was spacious and very clean. There is a little bar on the roof where we enjoyed an apertif late afternoon before dinner. Cool hotel, not overly expensive, great location. Why not?

I had booked this hotel several months before our trip based on the good rate ($98 per nite including wifi) and the reviews on TripAdvisor. We were pleasantly surprised by the rooms and the location of the hotel. It is very central and close to everything you will need to do in Madrid. There are 3 subway stops within 5 minutes and the 24 hour airport shuttle stops less than 10 mins away. Gran Via is one of the main arteries of Madrid, so there is tons of shopping and places to eat around. All the sites are also within walking distance - Prado and Thyssen museums, Retiro park, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, the Royal palace and Almudena cathedral, Cibelles fountain. The tour bus stops across the street from the hotel. Everything is extremely convenient. The hotel room was very tastefully decorated and had everything, including a nice balcony overlooking Gran Via. We had to keep the balcony doors closed because of the noise, but did not hear the cars with them closed. The hotel bar/restaurant is stylish, but could be in any major city of the world. The breakfast is good, but very pricey. We had breakfast across the street at a restaurant for 1/3 of the price. The hotel staff was pleasant and accommodating. I would definitely stay at this hotel again if we are in Madrid.

Great location for shopping, eating, art seeing. Walking distance for Prado and Thyssen Museums, main stores and fine restaurants. It has been my hotel in Madrid for the past few years. The rooms have good quality and fair space. The service is ok, nice and helpul. The breakfast is pricey. Rather prefer some good churros at the Mercado de la Reina just in front.
The rooms can't avoid the street noise, so if you are sensitive to it you won't sleep. Afterall you are in the middle of the major "via" in Madrid.

Room Tip: Top floors and back rooms to avoid the street noise.

Great location on Gran Via and near Sol. Rooms with hot tubs beautiful. Priced accordingly though. Fashionable street calle fuencarral opposite, be sure to head up there and don't miss the mercado fuencarral which has all sorts of reasonable fashionable gear!
