We stayed here with our six year old daughter, for five nights in October/November 2012, for the grand sum of 130 euros (booked during one of Travelodge's promotions). Flights care of Easyjet. The hotel is a typical of the chain, and the room (and the hotel generally) was in good condition with only a few minor defects. The room was large enough to accommodate a camp bed as well as the sofa (instead of the usual roll out). Coffee making facilities are available from reception (although they did say that kettles were in short supply). All the staff were polite and helpful. The room was cleaned well, but generally too hot at night.
We took the 200 bus from the airport for just 1.50 euros per person paid to the driver, (from just outside the terminal, to the right) to the second stop at Arturio Soria. Cross the footbridge at the bus stop, turn right down the steps, and then take the road on your left. Walk past the Carrefour supermarket, and after 100 yards, take the road first road on your right. The hotel will be seen at the next intersection (about 300 yards) just to your right. We went back to the airport on the same bus (but remember not to cross the footbridge).
Breakfast is available for 7.50 euros per adult (paid daily), with children free. Oddly, the cafe shares the same space as reception. Breakfast is available for 7.50 euros per adult (paid daily), with children free. Oddly, the cafe shares the same space as reception. Reasonable coffee, croissants & bread, scrambled eggs, bacon (under cooked), sausages (not good), cereals, pots of yoghurt, and fresh fruit. Not bad, but there is a VIPS just around the corner which does a good full English breakfast at a similar price, if you get bored with the selection on offer in the hotel. Next door to the VIPS is a handy supermarket.
We bought 5 day zone A travel passes for 25 euros each (children 12.50), from the local metro station. This covers all the metro lines and buses within the city, and the bus back to the airport. If you are arriving late, don’t buy a travel pass for the single journey from the airport as day one of it will expire at the end of the day.
The Prado and several other museums have free entry at certain times. Whether you are paying, or getting in free, beware of the queues and pick your time carefully. We waited in a slow moving queue for about an hour and a half, but then discovered there was almost no queue several hours later. The Royal Palace and armoury is worth a visit, but again beware of long queues.More
