Our trip to Madrid from Tenerife started with the Westin Palace hotel messing up a bit on our reservation; needless to say we were ready for a better experience and we received it. We were welcomed at La Era by Irid and immediately given water and drink order taken. She carefully explained the menu to us and basically we put ourselves in her hands. The mous bouche was a melon soup which was crisp and cool. We started with seasonal peppers and vegetables. Perfectly cooked and lightly seasoned. We followed with tuna steak which was fresh and tender. We had braised oxtail last which basically melted in your mouth. Outstanding! All accompanied by wine pairings that made the food pop! Dessert, 2 different chocolate dishes a soufflé mousse and a chocolate tart. Both spectacular!
2 things not happy with. This caliber of restaurant needs to have a cell phone policy. Our meal would have been perfect were it not for the older couple behind us playing candy crush. Pretty obnoxious. A little more upsetting was that this couple was then asked to sign the guest registry while we were not given the same courtesy. It was a little confusing and makes my wife and I concerned about how Americans are perceived and treated. We consider ourselves foodies and really research in detail our restaurants when we travel. We loved the restaurant and will not let that last bit of disconnect in service mar what was a top 5 meal!
