“Great hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2014 via mobile

Very well located if you want to be closeto the action but not in the action. Very modern rooms, although a bit tight space wise. Great transport connections and a shopping centre across the road. The reception staff were trully awesome! There was no question that was too difficult for them.

The only one thing they MUST work on is the heating: far too much!!!

Given the price that we found on the internet, we did not have high expectations, however we loved the hotel! The room was beautiful and the entire hotel is new. The people working on the front desk were really nice and they helped us with anything we needed and always with a smile and good manners. The location is good because it is located in the downtown area but it is not as overwhelming as being near the plaza mayor or Sol. It is right next to the train station and metro, so it is very easy to get anywhere from there.

Excellent price for quality choice !

PLACE - Right next to the metro, 10 minutes walking distance from the City Center, from Plaza Espania, the Royal Palace and Gran Via. For the Prado museum, the Metro should be taken.

PERSONNEL - Friendly and very helpful staff. Decent knowledge of English, which is definitely an asset in Madrid. The reception checked us earlier than normally and were very friendly!

ROOMS - WOOW...this was the biggest surprise. Given the average price which we had to pay we did not have high expectations. The quality of the rooms was perfect ! Stylish furniture, wonderful view, very comfy bed and perfect bathroom !!! The room was cleaned every day, no matter how messy it was, the cleaning lady was putting everything on its place. Even my tablet was nicely put next to my bed every day! The only minus (if you could call this a minus) was the fact that the heating was so powerful that we had to sleep with open window :) :)...

The hotel is an excellent choice for people who are visiting Madrid for several days :)

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view to the park !

Considering that is in a capital city the price and quality are very good, room basic but clean and well decorated, not huge and not too much room for clothes but fine for a couple of nights, amenities a bit poor but good linen and towels. Terrace at the top with spectacular views... Hotel staff helpful, professional and courteous, the area is not bad but not great either (same everywhere next to a main station - not best area of Madrid) overall pleasant stay and next time will try to get bigger room...

The hotel is right across the street from the Principe Pio station and within walking distance of some popular parks and the Palacio Real. I'd describe the decor as Ikea chic, with soft beds and decent amenities in the bathroom.

It seemed a good value, and we wanted to like it more than we did in the end. The main problem was the mosquitos. We could already see blood smears on the walls and a half dozen mosquitos buzzing around (our room was on the 4th floor), and we sure enough got bitten throughout the night. We killed about 6 mosquitos, fat with our blood, with a rolled paper the next morning.

The staff were only semi-friendly and helpful, some more than others. We had to ask about breakfast and were told it's in the basement of the restaurant next door. They had typical fare, but the coffee was good. It wasn't until we checked out that we realized they were charging us 15 euros/day for it. In that case, it would've been cheaper to eat at the actual restaurant.

The lounge is nice (though the coffee isn't free as advertised), and there is free wifi throughout the hotel that works fairly well.

Madfor is located right in front of Pinciple Pio station, and there is a decent sized mall at Principle Pio with H&M and 100 Montaditos (a cheap and popular place with popular little bite sized bread and sangria).

Reception staff was able to check us in earlier than the official check in timing and she ws helpful enough to provide us with directions.

The first floor lobby area was fantastic and very nicely decorated.

We walked up the hill to the Egyptian temple, and from there to the Madrid Palace.

If you get a room at the front, you get a good view of the shopping mall and the Madrid Palace from the side.

All in all, it was a good, value for money hotel. I would definitely come back to Madfor again if I'm in Madrid.

Advantages
1. Next block to supermarket and cafe. Small convenient store also available after supermarket is closed.
2. Just two min walk to the nearest metro station ("Principe Pio" station)
3. Room is comfotable, clean and new
4. Staff is nice and helpful
5. Walking distance to Palace
6. Good river view from room

Disadvantages
1. Requires transit to another metro line when going to "Sol" station

Conclusion
Overall recommended - considering nearby supermarket and metro station, and interior tidiness.
