“Fantastic location and staff”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

We booked a room for 2 nights although we were just arrived in the early morning at the following day. Unfortunately, due to double booking number from booking site where we booked the hostel, the room was given to another guests. And no more available room for those days. But the staff received us that morning was very responsible and helpful by finding us a room from the other hostel downstairs. And we're so happy to know that he would responsible for the payment. He also gave us breakfast voucher for 2 days. The location was excellent, close to shopping centre and main attractions. You can find anything in this area.

Went to Madrid for the first time to go to Real Madrid match so were looking something not that far from the stadium and not far from the city centre- when saw all the prices of the hotels and hostels for tuesday- wednesday staying I was thinking that I wont find the good value hotel so will probably have to book the room for €150 / night- but then I noticed "Main street hostel" - good value, excelent location- and whats more- room
looked exactly as in the picture - when we arrived the receptionist spoke both english and spanish and was wery welcome and helped us if we had any queries about geting to places in the city- I liked the fact that we got the room to the view to the side street so it was not as noisy as the one to the main road which is quiet bussy . 10 out of 10!!!!!

Just returned after weekend trip to Madrid. Taxi had no difficulty finding the building. Asked for quiet room and had a room on a side street off Gran Via. Had blackout blinds which also reduced any noise level. The room, as expected from photos and reports from other reviewers, was perfect. Excellent location, cleaned daily and fresh towels. Mattress Toppers, hair dryer, free wifi and, as temperature was in excess of 30C, the air condition unit was perfect. Hop on/off bus located nearby. Highly recommend using the buses to learn about the city. Madrid was the final day of a cycle race so spent a few hours watching sat outside a cafe on Gran Via. Walking distance to many attractions. Loved Retiro park with its boating lake, amazing sculptures, fountains, and beautiful gardens.
Definitely recommend this hostal. In fact already recommended Main Sreet Hostal to our daughter when she visits Madrid.
If you want value, cleanliness, location, friendly staff, book this hostal. If you want 4* luxury, go elsewhere.
If, like us, you enjoy a hot drink on waking, take a travel kettle, cups, coffee and/or tea bags.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 8 which was quieter than the rooms facing Gran Via.

Excellent location near the "top" of Calle Preciados; easy walk to main attractions, metro, the plazas, shopping, the wonderful pedestrian malls and the main bus station. Can take "day trips" by bus to the small towns close to the city (e.g. Segovia).
We loved walking in the evening along Calle Preciados. The area is safe day and night.
When you first arrive at the hostal (and the entry door) you may think the place is like a "hole in the wall". And then when you get to the hostal (5th floor) the front desk is very small. But don't let
these initial impressions deter you. The rooms are very clean, comfy bed, great A/C, excellent free WiFi. Bathroom a little small but extremely clean. Our window (and small balcony) was onto a narrow side street: room was quiet.
All staff very helpful, and pleasant. Rosie at the front desk was a delight! Hostal was excellent value for the price we paid; no breakfast but lots of restaurants close by; no frig.
We had a Budget rental car and a return office and parkade was within a block; this was very convenient.
If we are ever back in Madrid we will be heading for "Main Street" again! Highly recommend!

I am so glad to say that everything about this central accomodation is absolutely perfect! My girlfriend and I arrived on a Thursday evening by Metro, and after some time fumbling around in the Gran Via area we found this gate (number 50) right next to Geox shoe store. Right up to 5th floor and we were greeted by a young gentleman (Ulises) to room 1 overlooking a fantastic view of the Gran Via. Was a very sweet surprise to find 2 towel swans waiting for us, accompanied by a small bottle of champagne. Our room was very clean, modern, with flat screen TV, free wifi & an A/C unit (just like home). Breakfast is served in a very nearby "Cafe Boutique" named Tanka's. Attention, the chocolate Napolitanas are very addictive. The hostal itself comprises a few amount of rooms (all on the same floor) and is run by 3 young energetic fellas (Ulises, Joni, & Rosi) who were always ready to help and please us in all possible ways they could! Honestly, they will make you feel at home no matter how many miles away you are from your hometown. Another plus for this hostal is that both Rosi & Joni speak very good English. We might seriously get back soon to this hostal as I am longing to watch Real Madrid play at the Santiago Bernabeu. Anyway you will definitely not regret choosing this fantastic hostal!! Thumbs up!

We were welcomed by a very friendly staff who introduced us to our clean room with two glasses of cava. The room was clean and nicely decorated. The location is convenient, close to every touristic attraction of Madrid. Real value for money if you want to make a city trip to the dynamic city of Madrid. The place where the guests can have their breakfast is also nice and typically Spanish.
Although the location is great, it is located at the very busy Gran Via, where there is a lot of noise during the whole night. The windows are soundproof, but when it’s hot and you don't want the air-condition on and you leave the windows open, the noises can keep you awake.

This hostel was selected by us after reading other trip advisor reviews and it lived up to expectations. Clean hotel on busy main road. Right in the middleo f town so a short walk t all the key sights. We got room 11 and its got shutters on the windows for light and sound and is on the back of the building away from the road noise. Perfect for us to get over jet lag. The staff here ( Rosie) are ridulously helpful. Nothing was a problem and they can tell you all the good spots. Travelling here from the airport....take the train (Metro Stn CALLAO) to the hotel door for only 5 Euros each ! Bargain. If you want the precise instructions on the train send me an email.Highly recommended for a stay in Madrid. Ole.

Room Tip: Room 11 out the back and has two huge windows on both sides of the room for light and fresh air.
