The rooms are tiny and lack natural air flow, but it's not all that bad considering the price and its situation in the best part of Madrid, close to many attractions and transportation. I don't really like the fact that they charge you for the use of the air conditioning -Madrid, as you can see if you arrive by airplane, is a bit of a desert, and can get awfully hot in the summer.

We stayed in 2 separate rooms. And the experience was day and night. The kids got the noisy room and no peace was to be had at all. One has to keep the window open to be able to breathe. We paid the Euro6 extra to get aircon in our room, so we could keep windows closed besides our room was at the back of the building. We had a very comfortable night. It is small but, well situated. Stairs are wide and easy to negotiate. We had a vehicle and parking was easy and close in spite of the one ways. I would not like to spend a extended holiday here, but is was absolutely perfect for our need of one night in Madrid before heading out to explore the rest of Spain.

I stayed at the Tijcal II for 3 nights and was very satisfied. The (solo) room was small but compact and comfortable, had a large closet, desk, free wifi, and ensuite bathroom&shower. It was very clean, and there was a maid service every day. The location - right in the center of the city - is incredible, and despite that - my room faced an inner courtyard and so it was very quiet. The only drawback is the additional cost for AC - for me, it was necessary. The price is still extremely reasonable though, the service was fine, I didn't try the breakfast.

It's a very clean place, the maids tidied up the room each day, free wi-fi in room, nice people, the best thing about was that, although being in the centre of the city, very close to plaza del sol, there was no noise whatsoever from the outside, so we had very restful nights. The bathroom was a little cramped but great value for the money, we would recommend it as a great finding.

I checked TripAdvisor after booking and got a shock, but after staying here, this place has gotten a bad rap on here for noise and bad service, but I experienced neither.

I would rate it a good choice for couples or friends on city breaks to Madrid. Although it looks a bit seedy from the outside, it's well-lit, and very clean and comfortable on the inside. The rooms are tastefully decorated and spotless, if a little Spartan and small. The bed was comfortable if a little hard. The windows were heavily soundproofed, so we got a good night's sleep -- and just as well, since the street is very close to Puerta del Sol and thus very noisy. Do be aware however, that just about everything is an optional extra, including air conditioning.

A budjet choise in Madrid. Best is location for night life. Lots of restaurants and bar are so close.

Ok, the rooms are small, but hey you are not staying a lot there.

Location: We stayed in Hostal Tijal II for its location. Its right in the centre of Puerta del Sol, the heart of the city, near to Metro stop Sol. Surrounded by tons of eateries, bars, cafes and of course all attractions are walking distance away.
Facilities: The room was quite small. Our twin bed room had 2 beds in a single line, so you can imagine the width of the room. The bathroom esp the shower cubicle was very small, but functional. Housekeeping was done daily and hotel was generally clean. You could borrow an iron if you need.
Food: There is no room service but they have a Tijcal restaurant down on the street where you get a discount as a guest. Serves great pizzas. Anyhow, the street is lined with numerous cafes, so no problem. You can order breakfast (juice, coffee, crossiants) the night before and they will serve you in your room in the morning. Very reasonably priced. Also, there is a coffee vending machine at the reception.
Downside: Its near a club. As Madrid parties all night, you can hear the vibrations of music in your room till wee hours and can have a sleepless night if you are a light sleeper. The club is closed on Sunday, so it is pretty peaceful on Sunday.
Wouldn't mind going back for a short stay.
