A basic hotel just a few moments walk from Gran Via Metro station taking no notice of the Ladies of the Night who were, apparently, doing a day shift as well! Only one armchair to sit in and the flat screen tv on the wall was very small. Wi-fi was fast and constant and available free of charge in the room. Helpful. The bathroom promised a shower with jets of water all over the body but, sadly, the water was only from overhead - the spa bits just did not work. The entrance hall to the hotel is notable. Comfy waiting area if you have to. The included breakfast had a reasonable range of foods. Room was very clean and quiet even though we faced the street outside. Probably worth three and a half stars but not quite four in my view.

We happened upon Hotel II Castillas through an on-line "pay before you know location" site. It turned out to be a real find! We had a little problem at check-in as our reservation for 2 rooms for some reason indicated only 1 person in each room. The hotel staff insisted that we pay an extra $25 per night per room. We grudgingly obliged, and this turned out to be the only negative for our stay. Our room with king bed was very spacious and the room with 2 double beds was not cramped by any means (compared to some of the rooms we stayed in while in France and London!). The bathrooms were sizeable enough and even had a towel warmer! The included breakfast was very nice, but would have been even better had it included more of a "Spanish" style breakfast rather than european; eg. papitas, and mexican-style eggs, rather than plain scrambled eggs. However, the breakfast overall was pretty good. The best part about this hotel, however, is its proximity to Puerta Del Sol and the Plaza Mayor. Puerta Del Sol is only about 3 minutes away (which has a Metro station) and Plaza Mayor only about 7 minutes away. We walked to the Prado Museum in about 15 minutes and encountered a number of smaller plazas along the way. All in all, our stay in Madrid was enhance by us staying at the Hotel II Castillas, and we would stay there again if we had the chance.

Room Tip: We had a room on the north side and the garbage trucks at 3:00 am sounded like an army conducting mi...

This was a very good hotel for the money.Well situated but quiet unless you leave the window open.Smallish room but big bathroom, nice towels etc. Breakfast was good, hot and cold food though don't go late !! Nice staff bar one , you know who you are.......... Walking distance to lots of favourite places but plenty bars close by if you don't want to wander.Free safe and a wee fridge bar.Connected ny internal door to a nice bar next door. You would be hard pushed to get better value.

I have been attending this hotel for many years and never I was disappointed. Good value for money, close to Puerta del Sol with many underground possibilities it is suitable for both business and tourism. The wifi is free and it works fine despite sometimes it is a bit slow. Breakfast is good and included in the price. Never experienced negative surprices at the moment of check-out that is fast and detailed.

Room Tip: If you like to see the life of Madrid, ask a room that looks at the calle Abada. (But please don'...

The location of this hotel was perfect. It was walking distance from the bars, metro, and shops. I was impressed with the number of bars/restaurants within a 5-10 min walk. To get to the hotel was super easy too. You take the metro from the airport, and change trains twice. It was less than 5 euro. I forget when you get off, but when you do, its a 2 min walk to the hotel. My husband and I stayed for three nights. The room was a standard size, and the bathroom was clean and modern. It had a dual sink, which you don't find in hotels. The internet worked well in the room. The front desk was helpful with tickets, and information. They also scheduled my airport transportation. The taxi to the airport was 40 euro. We will definitely return and stay at this hotel again.

This hotel is so central to everything that it makes it is the perfect place to explore Madrid from .Firstly getting there from the aiport is simple with two changes on the metro your almost directly outside the hotel about 50 yards away,we are lucky our son works in Madrid and so he explained the system when we arrived we bought a 10 trip ticket for the metro allowing us to travel to most places in the city, although to be honest we walked most of it, its a bit like Paris in size compact and sites easy to get to.
The hotel is ideal and the staff very helpfull, the rooms are clean and have everything you need, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the breakfast at all, when you leave they have a safe room for your luggage which you can collect at any time and the return journey to the airport took half an hour.
Madrid appears to be a young and vibrant city with pleny to see and do safe and clean, plenty of bars and restaurants, oh and when we went there it was warm made such a diffrence after such an awful winter weve had this year.
Have a ride on the cable cars over the natural park , do it one way and walk back , head for the lake and sit at one of the bars. The view of the snow capped mountains in the distance is wonderful, Visit the bull ring for a tour fasinating. The palace is very impressive from the outside we didnt go in.The Parque del buen retiro (park) is worth a visit. We are lucky our son showed us to the best and hidden bars around, some on the street and some on top of buildings with great views so search around, the Plaza Mayor is impressive and if you do go there to find the oldest restaurant in the world its not in the square its outside of it, and took me and hour to find it :)
In summary the hotel is great the city is fun and its well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Dont worry your there to visit the city oh and the Rib Restaurant right outside the hotel is also v...

The location of the hotel is excellent, as it is located in the center of Madrid. Gran Via is just a few steps away, while within a walking distance you could visit all sights and enjoy the wonderfull city. Also, Callao metro station is very close to the hotel. Our room was on the 6th floor. The room didn't had a view, but it was very quiet, comfortable and warm. The hotel offers free wi-fi but the connection in our room was not good. Breakfast was nice.
