I've stayed at this hostal several times. Although the rooms are small, especially the bathrooms in the singles (I bash my elbows a lot), the rooms are clean and comfortable. They could improve the quality of the bed linens and towels. The location is excellent and the price is good.

I stayed in this hostal for 2 days and 1 night in March 2013. I came from the Atocha train station and took a taxi whose driver was not very familiar with the address. He dropped me off at the nearest main street but pointed me to the wrong direction, which meant walking around the area with no detailed map on hand. I decided to ask for directions (best to go inside a shop and ask, instead of asking passersby in the streets) and walked up the narrow street of Calle Las Fuentes.
Do not expect to find a hotel lobby but watch out for number 10, and you have to ring a bell in a non-descript apartment building. There is no sign at the door except for the number, and when you look up, there is a sign hung at the first story but covered by tree branches so it's not easily visible. They buzz you in after you ring the bell, and you climb up the stairs to the first level, where the reception is. There is a small elevator which can only fit your luggage, so best to use the stairs, and meet your bags on the first landing.
Rooms are tiny with a tiny bed, and a small fridge with some very reasonably priced refreshments. Despite the size, the rooms are spotless and newly fitted plus, bathroom is super clean. The hostal is well-maintained and there is always a cleaning staff tidying up so the hostal always smelled clean and fresh which I really liked.
Location is great, there are many shops, restaurants and sights accessible by foot around the area. It is very near the Opera House (2 minutes), Palacio Real (10 minutes), Puerta Del Sol (7 minutes), Mercado de San Miguel (5 minutes) and Plaza Mayor (7 minutes). The hostal is at the Centro and I highly recommend coming with a detailed map of the area, which you can download on a handheld device so you can navigate the area easily. The free maps are not so good since they do not show the names of the small streets which abound in the area, and if you don't have the names of the streets it's easy to get lost.
The hotel is also near two Metro stops (Sol and Opera) so it's very convenient to move around. The accessibility of the hotel was ideal to drop off your shopping and venture out again without having to walk very far to Puerta Del Sol. I saw a few hostals nearby so you might want to check out reviews of those places before deciding, but as for me, the hostal was an excellent choice. Service was efficient and friendly. Wi fi was free and worked well. They let me stay till 5 pm and only charged me a nominal fee of 20 euros, and they even booked a taxi for the airport. Taxi fare ranges from 36-42 euros depending on your luggage.
Overall, I would recommend Hostal Las Fuentes to travelers who value cleanliness, friendliness of staff, and great location versus luxurious rooms and buffet breakfasts.

Room Tip: You may want to choose a room away from the street. Also the hostal only provides tiny sachets of s...

I recently returned to Madrid and stayed at Las Fuentes again, this time I went with a friend, so had a twin room, same standard of cleanliness, again would recommend this hotel, for cleanliness, security and convenience.

The location is great, walking distance from Cordoba Mosque and Alcazar. our room was small, but who cares you are in Cordoba and there is so much to see and enjoy . The price is also great, rooms and bathrooms are super clean . There is also heater/AC in the room .

By the way don't forget that you can visit Cordoba Mosque for free 8:30 - 9:30 am , so take advantage of that!

This is a late review as we stayed here for 2 nights in August 2011. Las Fuentes was an excellent choice, clean, comfortable, central and reasonably priced. The only thing missing was WiFi (we knew this prior to booking). A bonus is being close to the Mercado de San Miguel food hall which quickly became a favorite. My wife and I were in a 3 bed room which was quiet - the bathroom was nice and newish. Is the lift (elevator) in this building the smallest in Madrid? We preferred the stairs. Las Fuentes met our expectations and we would not look for anywhere else to stay in the city.

The hostel is located right in the heart of the city. The entrance is a bit strange and confusing like it is a private flats building. You have to go up to the 1st floor and ring the bell on the door to get to the reception. The room we got was a bit small (just enough to walk around the double bed), but the price was reasonable and most importantly it was clean. The bathroom was like new. There is a computer with internet access that you can use near the reception.

The staff were friendly, although the lady who checked us in didn't know a single word of English (not even to say "signature").

Overall it was great, and I would go back there again.

I husband and I stayed at the hostal for 4 nights in October 2012. It's a very clean hostal, clean towels every day. Air conditioner worked great! we had the room at the back not in front of the street, as i am a light sleeper i traveled with my earplugs, but the noise was not that bad. I do have to say that the room doors are very noisy when opening or closing.
If you are looking for a great location, clean hostal at a great price this is it!!! Rooms are small, but all the rooms in Europe are so you know!!!
