Several metro locations very cloe by.
Staff very helpful. My best advice take the green line from the airport will save you quite a bit of time and money.

We stayed for five nights and while the hotel wasn't the best we stayed in, it wasn't the worst. I thought the staff was very attentive and informational. When we needed to print tickets for our train trip to Segovia they were more than happy to print it for us. The bar area was great to go to after a night out. Some little things that bothered me were how noisy it could get. The hallways are very small so we could hear people moving about, also were were on the second floor and occasionally we could hear the staff downstairs. There was also no clock in the room. The hotel was located near many attractions and a metro stop.

My wife and I recently spent 8 nights (20-27th August) at the Ganivet. I agree with the majority of the reviews on this site – it’s a pretty good place to stay and if you pay what we did (just less than £50 a night for bed and breakfast) it’s also exceptional value for money. We are happy to recommend it.

I’m not going into detail about the hotel as others have done all that before. Just a few points. Like a previous reviewer, we emailed the hotel asking for one of the rooms on the 5th floor with a balcony. Unlike the previous reviewer, we did not get one! But the hotel did reply explaining why. As there are only a handful of rooms like this I guess it’s just pot luck. Another reviewer commented about the absence of the free drinking water mentioned on the hotel’s website. I can only think they did not look. Two bottles of water were provided on arrival and there was a water machine on each floor (just to the left of the lifts) where you could refill them. This is chilled and filtered tap water not mineral water but, after a day’s sightseeing in temperatures of nearly 40C, it was welcome. Our room was on the 2nd floor and looked out over the road. There was some road noise (and the noise of drunken revellers at about 4pm on Sunday morning) but we found it OK and at a level you would expect in a city hotel. If you want a quieter room there are some that look into a central courtyard and others at the back of the hotel. In the bathroom they do not provide flannels, contrary to a picture on their website. They do provide decent quality towels, bars of soap, soap in a dispenser and a shower cap. That’s all. Our shower (over the bath) was powerful and had a detachable shower head (i.e. on a flexible hose) that was handy for just, say, hair washing. Now a few niggles. We thought the room could have done with a drawer or two. The lifts were not very good. There were only two, and as they were used by the cleaning staff during the day, you often had to wait a long time. Room servicing was OK but it deteriorated considerably over the weekend.

A few general tips. If you do not want the full breakfast (they charge 10 euros per person if it is not included in your rate) the hotel’s café does a continental type breakfast for about 3-4 euros. Alternatively, if you leave the hotel, turn right and walk about 30 yards you will see a yellow sign that says ‘Galeria de Alimentacion’. Go in and right at the back there is a small Dia supermarket that sells bread, juice, cakes etc. As we used the metro and buses a lot we found the Zone A Tourist Transport Pass handy. It saved us money and, as importantly, saved us the hassle of having to buy a ticket each time. You can get it for 1 day (8 euros), 2 days (13.4 euros), 3 days (17.4 euros), 5 days (25.4 euros) or 7 days (33.4 euros) and gives unlimited use of the metro, blue EMT buses and the suburban cercanias trains. We bought our passes from the Tourist Office in Plaza Mayor. While we used the metro a lot we preferred the buses. We found the circular buses C1 and C2, and bus number 3 which goes through the city centre (all of which stop near the hotel) really useful. Near the hotel there is a huge street market (El Rastro) on Sunday mornings and a smaller one (mainly clothes) at the Mercat de Toledo on Tuesday mornings. The reception staff should be able to give precise directions to the bus stops and the markets.

Good hotel but the room was a bit small. However the room service was excellent and the room cleaned very well, so was the bathroom and the towels were spotless. The lifts were easy and accessible and fresh water available 24/7. The reception staff were quite helpful and the bar staff did their best but spoke little english. The location was quite good but would recommend any first time visitors make some enquries as to where they want to visit and distance etc., beforehand. Would stay there again but plan what we would be doing in advance. The breakfast was ok but have had nicer in other hotels.

Room Tip: We were at front of hotel and was good for us because the festival took place when we were there and...

If you are looking for a clean modern hotel with good breakfast options for a busy trip to madrid then this is a great choice of hotel.

Friendly reception staff and pretty good facilities made our stay good... Our stay may well have been great however we did end up trapped in the elevator.

When we finally got out there was 1 member of staff who grunted a sort of apology and that was it.

We didn't expect an ambulance or medical staff etc but maybe a genuine apology and a drink or even just the offer of a drink would have helped smooth things over. That's said it was the small hiccup during our trip to madrid so it can be forgiven.

Definately a contender if i return to madrid again.

This is a purpose-built hotel on a busy road within easy walking distance of old Madrid. We booked with a flight via Expedia and found it very good value. It is ideal for exploring the city. The rooms are clean, modern and comfortable with a good bathroom and free Internet access. There is no fridge or tea or coffee making facilities. There is a useful chilled water cooler available on each floor. The air conditioning is very quiet and efficient. Reception and cleaning staff are pleasant and helpful. The front faces onto Calle de Toledo which is busy and noisy and there is a nightclub just up the road which can produce late night noise at weekends so in the summer heat of August we found sleeping difficult - a rear-facing room should be better. The breakfast buffet at 10 euros is very good if you are hungry but the mini breakfast available in the hotelbar is fine at 3 euros and there are plenty of outside bars in the area which offer cafe con leche, orange juice, churros and croissants at reasonable prices. La Latina is a great area for bars and restaurants and for the Rastro street market on Sundays. A few local tips: the hotel is much closer to Puerta de Toledo metro station than to La Latina; although you would not know it from the Metro map it is only a 10 minute walk to Tirso de Molina metro which is a good way to get to Bourbon Madrid via Atocha metro; Casa Rodriguez is an all-too-rare traditional family restaurant 5 mins away in Calle de San Millan offering a hearty 3 course meal with (basic!) wine and bread for 10 euros; for gourmet tapas and fantastic draft vermouth at 1.5 euros try San Miguel market outside the NE entrance to Plaza Major.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front face the main street and give a good view of Madrid life but are noisy with peopl...
