A lovely hotel in a great location, very central. It is on a busy street however but we stayed in an inside room overlooking the courtyard so was quiet on an evening. Staff are very friendly and there is everything you could want for breakfast. The room was spacious and very clean, perhaps the only thing extra we would have liked was tea/coffee facilities in the room but that is a small "niggle". We were travelling as a family of 3 and it was nice to see other families there too. Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the courtyard on the inside of the hotel.

Dear Penny T,

I am glad to see you have a nice stay in the hotel and that you liked our new breakfast.
About the tea/coffe facilities there is just in the Junior Suites, Superiors romos and Atocha view romos. Sorry about that.

HOpe to see you and your family soon and thank you very much for your comments.

Best regards,

César RIonda

Party of three adults in a junior suite with the second room permanently fixed as a third bedroom. Ideal for three adults . Brilliant location. Very adequate breakfast and very helpful staff both at breakfast and reception. Lovely bar area exactly as in the photos. Can't comment on the differential room sizes as didn't see any others. Very convenient for train station Atoche, for day out to Toledo.. No pool or gym for those seeking those facilities.
Will certainly re visit on next trip to Madrid.

We chose this hotel because it was close to where our son is living in Madrid, but it turned out that was a lucky move. The staff were all very helpful and some were quite delightful, putting up with my intermediate (at best) Spanish with patience and kind attempts at improvement. Our room was comfortable and quiet. The breakfast, included in the price, was excellent. The hotel does not serve meals other than a cafeteria service, but you are spoilt for choice in the area, as long as you like jamon, of course!

When we were there the hotel was very quiet most of the time, which suited us well. The odd little problem, like a fused light, was sorted out quickly and with no fuss. The room service was exceptionally quick and efficient and the price for such a centrally-situated hotel seemed very good value, particularly so on weekdays.

All-in-all the Catalonia Puerta del Sol gave us a great first experience of Madrid and we would like to say a big " Gracias" to all the staff. We hope to be back in October and are looking forward to our next stay.

Room Tip: There are three Catalonia Hotels in the Calle Atocha, all looked nice but this one seems to be the c...

Been there for a weekend in the last days of march. Hotel is very well placed, close enough to all the central points of interest in Madrid.
On the arrival we had a major dissapointment when we entered the room - very small, with little space between the minibar and the bed. Fortunately the staff was kind enough to change it to a normal room the next day. However this room (as the small one mentioned above) and as many of the hotel rooms had the view towards an inner courtyard. This made the room quite dark or, if we drew the curtains, with very little privacy.
Otherwise the hotel is very clean, the bathroom is large and the beds very comfortable. Furniture a little bit worn out but functional. The staff was extremely kind. Breakfast was ok. I really loved the expresso/coffee machine.

Room Tip: If possible choose a room NOT facing the inner courtyard.

Dear Mr. Bogdancon,

First of all i want to thank your comments.
All rooms are much bigger than the minimun space for a 4stars hotel mandatory, however if you were not confortable in the first room I am glad to know that you were happy in the second room.

Hope you visit us again.

Stayed in this hotel in Jan 2013 and was absolutely 100% impressed by the hotel, its staff and its location. It might not look much from the outside but rest assured that once inside you will be very pleased and impressed. Friendly and courteous reception staff. Room of a very high standard and the facilities in it as well. Very quiet at all times.

Hotel placed just around the corner from the Puerta Del Sol and handily situated for some great resteraunts and bars! Metro nearby as is the Plaze Major and the San Miguel market....both must be visited. Back again in September I hope!

Room Tip: My room was on the top floor and was very, very quiet so maybe if that's what you want then the...

This hotel ticks all the boxes for those looking for friendly and welcoming staff who provide an excellent service. Its also enjoys a great central location with easy access to a number of metro (underground) stations. However, the standard bedroom was pretty basic and lacked the comfort you would normally expect from a 4* hotel - but it was very clean and fine for just a two night stay over. The room was also a bit on the cool side. We had an internal facing room on the first floor - so we were not disturbed by traffic noise. But we did get noise on the first night from loud guests drinking in the bar/patio area - this though was more about individuals not having regard to others..

Room Tip: Room upgrade was advertised in reception at 30 Euros.
