This beautiful old hotel has a great location for the major museums on Paseo del Prado, it is right next to the Reina Sofía Museum. Rooms are generally confortable with good beds, although some rooms are renovated and others not, and the difference is considerable, especially regarding the bathrooms. There is much noise, though. The rooms facing the street have heavy traffic noise day and night, while those facing the open square by the Reina Sofia are much quieter, although there is some noise in the night from the square too. Also, the hotel caters to large groups of young students, and since you hear everything that goes on in the hallways and in the neighbouring rooms, it can be difficult to sleep. Breakfast is one bread roll (nice and fresh) and one croissant (sometimes fresh, sometimes not) per person, plus butter, jam, cream cheese, orange juice and tea or coffee.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the museum square are quieter.

This was my second stay at the absolutely functional Hotel Mediodia, a bargain for 77 euros for a twin room (spacious, bright and cheerful), and a relatively large bathroom complete with all basic amenities and bidet. Shower works perfectly. Beautiful white exterior visible from the main Atocha train station, impressive staircase leading to the lobby and an ideal location next to the Reina Sofia Museum. Lots of cafes, restaurants and a little shop selling bottled water and fruit around, an exceptionally good cafe (Lucianos) round the corner with an English breakfast at 9 euros complete with orange juice (did not take the one at the hotel). Reception staff efficient and polite, there's help with bags up the elevator and to the room, smiling and friendly, very welcoming indeed. Will stay here again for all these reasons.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back on higher floor if you want to look down on the delightful little square

We stayed here for 2 nights 10/12. It was chosen due to budget price and closeness to the train station, as I had an early train departure to Malaga.

We took the airport bus to the Atocha bus stop and was very convenient. My husband is a wheelchar user and was doable to wheel to this location with one bag.

There is a level entrance to the hotel in the back. There are stairs for the front entry. A few steps are needed to get on the elevator. My husband can walk a few steps, so very doable for us but would NOT be for anyone who is wheelchair dependent. Staff frequently were available to transfer the empty wheelchair up and down the stairs.

Room was very nice with comfortable beds, good wifi, roomy bathroom. Many cafes in the general area. Staff always helpful and early wake up call as needed.

We did the Hop on Hop off bus, which stop was a block away.

Would certainly stay here again.

The location is just great. Reina Sofia Museum is next door, you can dash in for free from 6 pm onwards to see Picasso's Guernica and other works. There's a little plaza behind the hotel, with bars, restos, and souvenir shops that close quite late. El Prado, Botanical Gardens, and Retiro Park are a short walk away. Housed in a nice, old, century-old building, it looks nice outside. Easy to spot, and stately. Inside, it looks dated, and dingy. The front desk staff are impersonal and do not give helpful instructions. The elevators are tiny, and move in slow motion. The bathrooms are bright, new, clean, and efficient. The bedrooms are dark, the bedspreads are tired, the shutter doors to the balcony are chained shut, the beds are basic, the pillows are too slim, there's not enough counter space to put stuff on. We had better hotels at cheaper prices in other cities in Spain - so this was not our favorite. We only chose it for the location because we needed to catch an early train, but in retrospect, we'd stay elsewhere next time, somewhere with nicer interiors. Honestly though, despite not liking the way our room looked, we slept well and woke up refreshed, and benefitted from the excellent location greatly - so this may work for those whose main objective is to stay in a strategically located hotel.

The room contains a decent sized mini fridge that is nice for keeping drinks in. We stayed in a triple room and found there was a distinct lack of plugs, so I reccomend that you bring an extenision cable. The breakfast everyday is a white crusty bread roll and an orange glazed crossiant. With an option of cornflakes, tea, coffee, nesquick, water and orange juice. So it is pretty basic all though not bad for four euros. The hotel has a nice large lounge area which is nice for working in. Not the best internet connection although works well in lounge. Excellent location, right next door to the reina sophia and not far from a metro station. The hotel is rather clean, although I was rather anoid when I placed the do not disturb sign on door and the room was cleaned. The front desk speak english but the cleaners and breakfast staff do not. Every room contains a safe although it is tricky to operate, This hotel is frequently used by schools for school trips so be warned there are a lot of teenagers. When we went there were three schools there.

Room Tip: there are two lifts in the hotel so it does not matter what floor you are on.

I did't stay because I found the another budget and good hotel nearby, eventhough reception guy told me i could be back and stay after one hour looking for the other hotels. The room he showed me was neat , clean and furnished with fridge and bath-tub.Room rate was about €100 for double. The hotel is located near Atocha station and a stone away( maybe 10 minutes) from Sofia and Prada museum. What an ideal place ! Hotel staffers were kind and caring. I'd like to stay next time for sure.

Stayed here with a tour group so not a personal choice.

Reasons to stay:
Easy walking distance to railway station, art galleries, and parks. Very reasonable prices. Very helpful reception staff. There is a small fridge in rooms, together with a safe.

Meeting expectations:
Beds and pillows are comfortable. Rooms have the basic essentials and are clean - ours did not have a rubbish bin though. It does seem as if there are rooms of various qulity, so check what you are getting/want when you register - some have views, some overlook the busy road at the front - but also have balconies and are not noisy with the window shut. Others are small with windows overlooking a central area. Others yet are still in the process of being refurbished.

Poor
Breakfast is a plate with a bread roll and a sweet roll - some indifferent coffee and orange juice, and some cereal. You may be asked to go to breakfast at a certain time. Personally, I'd skip this altogether and go for breakfast in one of the many surrounding cafes - or at the station.

Lift's are small, which could be a problem if you are on the sixth floor and it is a busy time.

It is a reasonable walk to the main shopping districts, so not so easy with children or those who find walking difficult. You would need to use the nearby metro, bus or taxi.

There are no evening meals or beverages served and no drink facilities in the rooms. However, cafes and restaurants are all around the surrounding area.

Room Tip: Go and look at a couple before you choose. Be specific about what you want.
