“Best Location in Madrid”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2014

Stayed here for 2 nights recently. The hotel is located right on the square of Puerta del Sol and is easily reached from Atocha Renfe station on the metro. The location is within easy walking distance of all the major sights so we found no need to use public transport or the city tour buses to get around. If you do want to use one of these, both have stops in the square. The hotel is very well appointed and the staff are very helpful. We had a superior room overlooking the square which allows you to soak up all of the atmosphere, especially on a Saturday night. It is noisy in the square at night but this is part and parcel of the experience and the double glazing eliminates the worst of it. The quality of the room and bathroom were good. The hotel has a large bar/restaurant and serves tapas. There are numerous other bars, restaurants etc within easy reach of the hotel.

Breakfast is a little unconventional but good nonetheless. It is served in the bar/restaurant and involves selecting one of 3 set breakfasts or a bespoke breakfast which is then served to you by the waiter. In other words, it's not the usual buffet version. We chose the "Europa" breakfast which as an example consists of orange juice, coffee, roll, croissant, and eggs with ham or bacon.

We thought the hotel was excellent value, especially compared with the astronomic pricing in Barcelona. We paid 115 euros including breakfast for the superior room. The "Europa" version of the breakfast is normally 11 euros per person so the cost for 2 people for the room only is 93 euros which is exceptional value for a hotel of this standard.

Room Tip: Go for a superior room overlooking the square to enjoy the local life. If you are a very light sleep...

This hotel is in a great location, just steps away from Puerta de Sol. The square is full of street vendors, Kilometer Zero, and the Bear and the Strawberry Tree statue which is the symbol of Madrid. You can easily walk to the Royal Palace and Prado museum, but don't be afraid of the metro. The hotel staff can help you find your way if need be.

We had a very spacious room and large bathroom. That made it easy for our 2 kids (ages 7 and 9) to spread out and have room to play. Everything was very clean and wifi was available as well. They even had a laundry service which was prompt and well done.

Great hotel - medium cost, not fancy or quaint but very comfortable at the end of long traveling days. We would definately return.

Hotel Europa is just of the main square of Madrid at Puerta del Sol. It's a 15 minute walk to the Royal Place and the museum district. Staying at Hotel Europa we didn't end up using the metro to get around since everything was so close! There are excellent places for tapas near by. The rooms are good sized and the bathrooms very nice. Great Value.

We had two rooms for two nights in March. Prior to our arrival we had several questions (including a request for twin beds and early arrival), and the hotel replied very quickly and accommodated our needs. Our rooms overlooked the Puerta del Sol so we could watch all the hustle and bustle of the area. We could also sit outside in the evenings and have cocktails from the hotel restaurant. Just a short walk from Plaza Mayor and the Market. The hotel is right next to the Metro station so it was easy to find and get around the city. The front desk staff and the restaurant staff were very helpful. Cash exchange was also available at the front desk. Free internet throughout the hotel as well as outside. Would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to the city of Madrid for the first time. While there are cheaper accommodations, this hotel was definitely worth every penny given the location and the service received.

Room Tip: The premium rooms facing Puerta del Sol are great for watching the plaza activities.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Europa for 5 nights in March. Our room was at the "back" facing the Puerta Del Sol on the second floor. It was very exciting to open the windows and feel like we were part of the life of the city. We could look out and see all the people and activity in the square. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The café in the hotel at the ground floor was great to go and get a tray of coffee every morning. I want to go back and stay at the hotel again.

After a guided tour of Barcelona and Madrid my wife and I decided to stay a few more days in Madrid. About 6 weeks before we left the US we had made reservation online at the Hotel Europa. Checking into our room was no problem even though we arrived at the lobby at 10AM. We had a premium room with a balcony overlooking the Puerta del Sol.
Every was top-notch. The room and bathroom were very clean and the staff very courteous.
There an adjacent cafeteria. We had coffee there one morning; we did not try them for any of our meals.

Room Tip: We knew we'd be right by the Puerta del Sol, which is noisy. I recommend earplugs!

Hotel was functional, clean and in a really central location. Metro station just round the corner and plaza nueva a ten minute walk at most. Gran via even closer. Very good value for money. Would return. Staff aren't very friendly. Maybe language is a barrier? Triple rooms a great plus.
