“Basic room in a great location”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

Great location next to the metro. Easy to take to and from the airport (requires 2 transfers); main train station, and bull ring. Easy walk to all attractions. Lots of great places to eat and drink close by. The room itself is pretty bare with a nicer than expected bathroom. Bed was fine but again no frills. You likely will not spend much time in the room anyway. We had a room on the street and could hear people out and about till all hours of the morning; it did not bother us much but we heard others complaining about it at front desk. You may want to ask for an inside room if you are a light sleeper. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Overall a good stay in a great city.

Room Tip: if you are a light sleeper ask for a room that does not face the main street

This is an unbeatable location! As soon as you get out of the metro at Sol, the hotel is there!

The rooms were spacious, including the bathroom. We had a balcony room (i recommend requesting one) which was great to watch the action on the Porta del Sol. We thought our room would be noisy given we faced directly out onto the Sol, but this was not the case at all. The shutters block the noise.

The staff were friendly and helpful in recommending restaurants, metro/train advice and providing directions.

Must try a coffee at the patisserie opposite McDonald's on Calle de Mayor. Would recommend this hotel for its location and spacious rooms.

We stayed here 2 nights in April and it was the perfect spot to begin our trip in Spain. We followed their perfect directions to arrive at the hotel on the metro. The hotel room was very clean and comfortable. We had a balcony overlooking the street which proved to be a little noisy, but it wasn't too bad and it was a great view. We were able to walk to many sights and the staff spoke excellent English and were able to give us many good directions and recommendations. We ate a good breakfast here as well. The convenience of the location to the Metro and taxi stand was a bonus. Also, the hotel is close to many shops and restaurants. I would stay here again!

Room Tip: Ask for an inside room if you want to eliminate street noise.

So much good about this hotel...take the subway from the airport, and you are steps away from the hotel door on the Plaza. Terrace room overlooking the Plaza with generous bathroom was well appointed and comfortable. Loved the hotel cafe for morning (or anytime) cafe con leche. Central location means you can get anywhere in Madrid from here. Staff was friendly and always available.

Room Tip: Request a room overlooking del Sol if you like to watch the action.

We stayed 3 nights. Excellent location for touring and a great hotel. Easy access to Metro; easy walking to major sights; easy walking to lots of shopping and dining. The Paseo every evening was great! Our room was nicely appointed, very clean and in excellent condition. Very good room for a smaller European hotel. No problem with street noise even though our room overlooked the square. Staff were welcoming, helpful and very friendly. We ate one meal at the restaurant. Food was good and waiter was very helpful. You can not beat the location of this hotel!

I traveled solo to Madrid, this was a perfect location. My room was nice, not old as some reviews state. The staff were helpful and kind. The restaurant was fine. My lack of Spanish skills made ordering meals an adventure, but I found the wait staff patient and helpful.

Just back from 5 days in Madrid staying in the Hotel Europa. The hotel location could not have been better as it was so central to all places of interest and of course shopping! Everywhere was within walking distance which meant that we could admire the wonderful architecture of Madrid while strolling around.

The staff were pleasant and courteous, greeting you with a smile at all times. Each day we had breakfast which was a great way to start the day. The room was comfortable, bright and airy and the bed was extremely comfortable. The only thing missing was a kettle in the room to make a tea or coffee while getting ready. However that does not change our view of Hotel Europa.

All in all we would definitely recommend the hotel. Looking forward to returning really soon!

Room Tip: Tip: try to get a room on an upper floor overlooking Puerto del Sol.
