“Quality but not standout”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

Los Amigos backpackers hostel is ideally located - slap bang between sol and opera, all the main attractions of Madrid are within an arm's reach (and others, such as the Bernabeu, are a very accessible metro ride away.) The guys who run Los Amigos are very informative and chilled out - if you have a problem they will solve it. There are hardly any negatives; perhaps the breakfast could be better and the whole hostel could be a little more socially encouraging - but overall you should choose this hostel for the location alone.
Side note: Absolutely go on the MADride bat crawl if you're so inclined; it was a great night out!

I spent few days in Los Amigos sol Hostel in Madrid and it was a great experience. Staff was really great and helpful, breakfast included 4 diferent kinds of breads, 3 cereals, coffee, hot & cold milk, cocoa powder, different teas, marmalades and butter. I would really recommend this place for sure ;).

This hostel is only 50 m from the opera metro station (but look up- it's sign is on the 4th floor!), and a few minutes walk from Sol. The entry is very secure, with key access to the building, the floor for the hostel, and individual rooms.

Bedding is provided, but not towels, so be sure to bring your own. The rooms were small, but my party of three got their own room, so it was manageable. Rooms have windows, fans, and optional AC. There was only one outlet in our room.

Free wifi was available in the common areas and rooms, and two computers were in the entry way for use for a small fee (one or two euros for an hour). There is also free luggage storage available for those who have late flights or trains the day they leave. Check out is at 10/11 am, but you can buy a day pass for 5 euros if you want to hang out in the common areas or kitchen.

The common lounge was small (we didn't spend any time there), but the kitchen was decent. It closes at 11 pm though, so plan accordingly. The front desk attendant is available only until midnight. The bathrooms are basic- a shared room, but separate showers and toilets for each gender.

The people who work here are very friendly- prompt in emailing, and energetic. They're English-friendly as well!

Overall, I had a great stay here. The hostel encourages guests to be social, so we made lots of new friends my keeping our door open and going on the MADRIDe flamenco and pubcrawl tour!

I stayed at this hostel for two nights and really have nothing negative to say about the hostel. It's located in Sol in the heart of Madrid which is crowded and noisy, but very conveniently located for tourists who want to walk around all the important sights in Madrid. The free breakfast is basic but functional and is a good opportunity to meet other people at the hostel (who were quite fun). The A/C is not extremely powerful which can be a little bit of a problem in the height of summer, but that's not a deal breaker at all. The staff is courteous and helpful. All in all, basic facilities and comfortable stay for the money you pay.

Room Tip: If you like silence, request a room that doesn't face the Calle Arenal (the road on which this h...

Everything about my stay here was average: cleanliness, friendliness, breakfast foods, Internet access...while all present, nothing proved to be excellent other than the location.

Room Tip: I enjoyed the six bedroom dorm, as you have a private bathroom within the dorm.

Stayed here over spring break in one of the 12 bed dorm style rooms (2 people). There were lockers in the room (bring your own lock, or you can rent one from them). The beds were comfortable, the place was very clean and all of the staff were very friendly. They provided breakfast in the morning, and we never had to wait in line for showers or bathrooms. The location in right in the heart of Sol, just steps to the Opera metro stop, or a little further to the Sol stop in the other direction. Most of the major sites/squares/delicious restaurants were within walking distance so we didnt end up on the metro very often (although, I must say the Madrid metro is very easy to use when you have a map, a VERY clean).

Our room was right on the street so the never-sleep lifestyle of Madrid might be a problem if you are a light sleeper, though they do offer off-street rooms. There was free wi-fi if you have your computer or they have coin operated computers that you can use too. They offer towel rentals if you need it, and sheets are provided on the beds (with a deposit).

Definitely recommend this place, great value for everything it provided.

Room Tip: Be aware that street-side rooms have a lot of street noise at night.

I met wonderful people,
however the curfew's and kitchen rules allowed for little freedom at the hostel itself.
If you're looking to have a place to hang out after the evening has ended, this hostel essentially would not be the place. It is literally a place to sleep. Which of course, is what a hostel is for, but if you're looking for something a bit more...this is not the place.
Clean, beautiful view, safe, staff was ok, not very fun.

Room Tip: The group dorms are well spaced, with great lockers to store your things. Be careful not to change...
