“Campo del Moro, Madrid”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

The Moorish Garden (Campo del Moro) is a secret gem of a Madrid. Placed just behind the Royal palace it offers peacefull shift away from the city crowd., and also amazing views of the Palace. Unfortunately there is only one entrance far away from the Palace, on the Paseo de la Virgen del Puerto, but if walking is not a problem for you it is definitely worth it. It also has a very interesting history from being camp of Moorish army in 12th century, playground for royal children in 19th century, closed under Franco to open public park today. Definitely place to walking, relaxing and enjoying a day in Madrid.

“Nice stroll but a bit isolated”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

A place for a nice stroll or picnic.  A few peacocks roam the grounds so keep your eyes low below bushes if it is a hot day.  The fatal flaw of the gardens are the ONE entrance and exit gate.  If you are visiting from the Palacio Real, it is a good walk there and back, especially in the summer heat.  Shame it cannot be entered or exited through the side gates! There is a small museum but it has been closed the two times I have visited so I do not know what is inside.
