This Madrid chain of food retailer and restaurant specializing in hams and cheeses is vibrant, fun and great way to experience typical Spanish food at its best.

A couple of days ago had a lunch here, pretty much everything went wrong. Service is bad, food that was ordered wasnt served..but appeared later billed. Price is ok, expect around 9€ for a meal, including drink.

So this is a chain and there are a few of them in Madrid, but they are all cheap and tasty...not the best ham at the bar, but they are landmark's of Madrid -- remember order a double calla (sorry don't have an N with the squiggly line over top, pronounced kA-ya) and a tapas will come for free, they are1 to 2 euros for a baguette and a beer....enjoy!

Based on the glowing reviews from earlier reviewers, we made a point to stop by to one of the Museo del Jamon shop (one near Anton Martin Metro near the Prado museum).
We did visited the Prado museun in the morning and went for lunch. We walked from Prado and took about 15-20 light walk.
The bar is on the first floor - and was crowded. We went upstairs for the tables, knowing it would be a bit more expensive. It was less crowded, and we got a table immediately. We orderded the set-menu #3. At first we wanted set-menu #1, but the waiter insisted for #3, as this had the Iberia ham. Since all this was a first time experience, we decided to try it. Boy, the amount of food was huge. The set menu was for 2, but the food amount was for like 3 or 4. We had a really huge breakfast, and this much food was just too much. The dishes were hughe , and kept coming. I did get the chance to try the "Jamon Iberico" (Iberian ham) to my heart's content. The service was good, and overall it was an experience. Next time, we'll try the bar on the first floor.
As the waiter came with the check, we sort of apologized about the large amount of unfinished food. We told him it was a large portion, and to our (pleasant) surprise he offered a doggie back. I'm not sure if this is the customary in Spain (it is for sure in the US). Since we were on vacation, we only asked for the cheese.
One of the dishes was pork skin. This is a common dish in Asian cusine, but it was definitely interesting to see it in Spain.
The food was not the best, but it was an overal experience to be had. The lunch bill of the set menu #3 came out on the high side (25-30eur). We probably could have had it cheaper, but at least we sat down on a table - we were pretty tired from 4-5 hours at Prado.

BTW- the set menu #1, #2, and #3 are only offered upstairs on the tables.

I belive set menu #1 is half the cost of #3.
