We spent a couple of hours walking the length of the Gran Via. Sorry, but I don't get the hype - a few ornate buildings but just another shopping street to me!

It's not called the Gran Via for nothing. Whether you start at the beginning of the Gran Via or at the other end, the walk and view of the entire Gran Via is fabulous. Lined with beautiful buildings, it is absolutely an experience to walk up one side of the Gran Via and down the other side as you take in the views, the history of the buildings and the stores that line both sides.

There are a lot of people on this street at any time. It is a central part of the city and can be overwhelming but always interesting

Gran Via, is one of the oldest and most famous thoroughfars in Madrid now being transformed with wider pavements. The variety of architecture on display is the street is wonderful. Be sure when going down this street to constantly look up.
