Incorporate this into a walk of the area and perhaps a spot of lunch as a walk just to see this isn't going to feel that worth it. Don't get me wrong it's a nice and historic monument but going out of your way for it isn't worth it if your on a tight time scale.

From any street approaching - the Puerta de Alcala Arch is impressive. Around the roundabout there are good streetrestaurants for a drink while trying to find the best photoangle

Alcala gate is one of the symbols of the city of Madrid. It is right next to the Retiro Park. When it was built the surrounding neighborhood was becoming a fashionable section of the city with all the prominent palaces being built in the area. Since then the Puerta de Alcala witnessed many important moments of Spanish history. It is a beautiful structure surrounded by a busy circle, a real beating heart of Madrid.
