On a hot summer day, the outdoor pool at Piscina Lago is the place to cool off. Right next to Lago Metro stop. 36m length, 20m wide...modern changing facilities, lots of space and €4.50 to get in for an adult. Great value place to visit.

I never appreciated how vast this place is until we got there! Stunning but also daunting in size, particularly on foot, much better visited by car or cycle. We arrived at Lago station and walked along the lake and then up along an old access road to the teleferico cablecar station situated towards the centre of the park. Beautiful stands of mature trees, planted avenues, benches, picnic tables and drinking fountains are in abundance. I didn't see any toilets available however which is disappointing, once you have eaten and drunk lots of liquid it could become awkward! A land train or other transport around the park could be a good idea if this isn't already provided as again it is near impossible to explore the whole park on foot within a day. More directional signage and maps should be provided to help visitors orientate themselves around the place otherwise it could be very easy to get lost!  We got the cablecar (Teleferico) from the centre of the park back to the City. I found the closing time of 9pm very limiting in the height of summer this should be extended to at least 10 or 11 so that visitors can enjoy the park later and can get back to the City without the need of a car. I enjoyed the cable car back to Madrid, the views are stunning and the journey is relaxing and it made for a pleasant visit. I would most definitely visit again but allow a full day for this place to fully enjoy all it has to offer!

We took the cable car and walked through the park before stopping at the nearby outdoor pool. The park is huge and although nice to walk through was nothing special. The restaurants that looked into the lake were overpriced and the one we chose was average to say the least. If you have to chose then Retiro Park should be your first choice, far better!!

We decided to take a stroll in this park. We avoided the area with the theme park and the zoo and focused on the area with the lake and restaurants surrounding it. It was beautiful. We did not eat here.
We entered the park near the Prince Pio train station. It was quite a walk to get to where we wanted to be. I would recommend getting the metro to El Lago and seeing it all from there.
Good place to go if you'd like to escape the city for a while and walk through a quiet and peaceful park.

This covers a huge area on outskirts of Madrid. The zoo is located there which is what I went to see.
