Many people when visiting madrid are interested in learning something about the "Toros" and bullfighting in Spain.
The museum is public and free...ok...but then it's just a sad and dusty collection of items (mainly donations), many portraits and scultures of bullfighters, few heads of toros, few documents and few costumes. No explanations what so ever on the bullfighting it-self, the history, tradition, modern times etc. Not aimed to the tourist, it is more a "nostalgic" room for bullfight lovers. A pity...

I currently live in Madrid and decided to take a wonder around the world famous Las Ventas bullring. Wondering around the back, we came across a small museum inside the bull ring itself.
Entrance is free and a security guard hands you a ticket and you´re free to walk around and take a look inside the cabinets which house bullfighting memorabilia, mainly bloodstains outfits legendary bullfighters wore when they were gored to death. It does sound quite horrific, but it is really interesting, especially when you get to the back of the museum where the heads of bulls who have killed famous bull fighters, are mounted on the walls alongside a plaque describing the life and death of the matador.
Being an avid fan of bullfighting, I was surprised by how small the museum was, but it is still definately worth a visit, especially if you want to learn more about the art of bullfighting
. It definately gets a thumbs up from me.
