Loved our meal here...and a week later, I'm still salivating over the thought of the food we enjoyed here. We cabbed to this local neighborhood to this small storefront, questioning each other "Is this it? Are we in the right place?" and were greeted warmly by the Owner who also waited on us and checked in with us regularly to insure everything was to our liking. We went with his recommendation for an appetizer consisting of 5 (x 2, one for each of us) very interesting tapas, all scrumptious. For our mains, we ordered the Secreto Iberian Pork w/Parmesian - that was perhaps my favorite entree of our entire trip, so rich and tender, with just the right amount of sea salt, and an order of a medley of mushrooms. So many things sounded great on the menu but he held us back from ordering more - and we were so stuffed, we couldn't even order a dessert (tho we declared earlier that we were "definitely" going to indulge in one)! Add in a reasonable bottle of wine and for $100US, we were "fat and <oh-so> happy" heading home. We would absolutely return to this wonderful "find" to partake alongside the locals. Here's an Owner doing all the right things, deserving high marks for food and presentation, and service. Ummm!

Thanks, Trip Advisor contributors for this excellent recommendation! This is a warm, cozy restaurant frequented by locals. As others have written, the owner and servers are generous with their suggestions (they speak English well) and considerately do keep you from over-ordering. It was a bit different for us to get used to the "Tapas" concept, but it worked out fine. I can say that we had the BEST Jamon Iberico we have ever eaten in our lives and there are no words to describe the tender, sumptuous flavor of the "Secreto Iberico Pork" (it's a cut from the side, along the ribs, made with rock salt and served with potatoes) we ate! This dish is a MUST! We also shared the calamari in black ink rice that was unbelievably delicious. A much ordered dish (and a perfect accompaniament to the food) was the medly of mushrooms we couldn't get enough of! We were too embarrassed to return a second night in a row, but when we arrived back in Madrid 7 days later, that is where we headed again to eat the same things, as we knew from eating all over Spain on our trip, we would never have a meal of this caliber again! (we ate at the Av. Bermudez location)

If you're looking for excellent Spanish food, a great atmosphere and attentive service then you must visit this restaurant.

We enjoyed 3 large plates of tapas between 4 people and were very full - thank goodness the staff were on hand to guide us through the menu and ensure that we didn't over order. In fact the menu is so large and all the dishes sounded so delicious that we simply asked the waiter for his recommendations, which were spot on. The bottle of cava we had to start our experience was lovely and at only EUR 15.00 it was very well priced as were all other drinks including the cocktails which we enjoyed in the bar after dinner.

The only downside is that this restaurant is a little way out and you will need to take a cab, but its worth the 10-15 minute drive and you won't be disappointed! This restaurant was the highlight of my weekend in Madrid and I can't wait to go back!

I am a regular customer of Alcaravea, I visit them weekly. Beside the excellent decoration of the restaurant, they offer great dished with carefully selected ingredients at a very good price. They also have an excellent drink selection (I particularly enjoy their gin's list) and both dishes and drinks are served with a distinguished attention to details. The staff are very attentive and both the chef and the waiters are one of the best in town. Definitely worth a visit!
