“My address in Madrid.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2013 via mobile

I have stayed at the H Jaen at least ten times over the past years in my travels to Madrid, always returning. The owners are very nice people, always accommodating and friendly. The location is good in the Las Letras section of Madrid. Cervantes lived across the steet ( a few years ago)! The Hostal is near the Metro and within walking distance of the center. A laundromat is 2 minutes from the Hostal. Having a place like this makes travel to Spain much easier- I never have to think of where to stay when I'm in Madrid.

This would be five stars had the woman not insisted on charging us twice for the room. We could not argue with her, although we had payed online weeks ago! Cute room, shower is bedside table though just a warning. But no issues, Las Cortes is a less rowdy place right near the Prado and just near enough the Plaza Mayor area without having a lot of tourist spillage Into the area. Remember this is Madrid- people stay out everywhere until four! There may be some street noise.

We were really happy with our choice of hotel in Madrid. We lived in Madrid for 7 years and had never needed to stay in a hotel before. We chose the hotel because of its location and its price. Great location near Plaza Santa Ana and Atocha. The family who ran the hotel were friendly. The room was small but most places are in Madrid. It still had good cupboard space and everything you could need. Would definitely stay here again. No sound from the street (unlikely in Madrid) but you could hear the next door neighbour´s every move.

Fantastic location in the middle of Madrid, a perfect way to see everything and wander home safely late at night.

It is cheap so perhaps I shouldn't be fussy, but the room was very small and the noises from the neighbouring room (i.e. very loud sex and people being sick - seemingly at the same time) made our stay less enjoyable. Not the guest house owner's fault, but the thin walls made for sleepless nights all round.

Pension Jaen is wonderfully located, close to the Prado and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and the Parque del Retiro. We decided on Hostal Jaen for it's price and location. Our room had a sink and a bathtub with shower, and the toilet was down the hall.

From a practical standpoint, there is a laundry at the end of the street and great little restaurant, Bar Mery Cruz Leon 5 around the corner to have breakfast. If you want Cafe Americano, there is a Starbucks right around the corner(Plaza Cánovas del Castillo, 5), You can roll your bag from the Plaza Cibeles airport bus stop or from the nearby Metro stop at Anton Martin on the light blue line. There is La Pizzateca for a simple meal and numerous other nice restaurants on Calle Leon nearby which are recommended by the owners to serve you.

The family that runs the pension is very friendly. Their English is limited, but they seemed to be able to communicate well enough to answer most of our questions and solve most of our problems. In an absolute emergency, they have a daughter, who speaks excellent English.

The pension is on the third floor of the building which was also were very clean and well maintained. Thankfully the building has an elevator. The rooms are smallish, but had everything you needed. There was some sound from outside, if you kept the window open, but it was not noisy for being in the middle of Madrid. Rooms are air conditioned, but we were there in mid-April and it was unnecessary. We slept with the windows open.

You could spend twice to three times the price and not get much better accomodations. They keep the light on and make your stay with them simple and uncomplicated. If need be they also can the extra mile to assist you.too.

Pension Jaen is situated in the heart of Madrid. Walk to Plaza Royal, shops, restaurants, the train station and the Prado museum. This small hotel is on the 3rd floor of a residential building. There is an elevator, though it doesnt work after 10pm. The rooms are small but clean and quiet and very inexpensive. The bathroom in my room had a good sized shower.
I'd recommend it to people on a budget that just want a room for a few nights.

Room Tip: You can get to downtown Madrid by taking the airport bus from the airport, 5 euros. Then it's a...

Little family run hostal. Nicely located in a great neighborhood near the museums and the Atocha train station which grants you easy access to the airport. The rooms are clean, but a bit small. Can't say much about the owners as we only saw them in the check-in and check-out.
