“Excellent value and location”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

We stayed here in October and then again in November for a couple of nights. We had a different room each time and both were excellent in terms of quality, style and value for money. The location is excellent. Relative to the cost I can't offer one negative comment. Ok, maybe one. The breakfast wasn't up to much so don't feel bad about having a lie in and missing it!

Probably the best hotel we stayed in during our week touring Spain. Service was perfect, the hotel is gorgeous, and the room was comfortable and beautiful. But you just cannot beat the location. Right in the middle of the action, best way to discover Madrid!

We spent Christmas in Madrid and stayed 4 nights in Francisco I. It was one of the best choices for hotels I have ever made. A very reasonable price and a clean, nice and modern room. The location is amazing - just in the heart of the city. Our room was facing the all day and night nosy pedestrian street but yet nothing disturbed our sleep. The staff are kind and friendly.
The only negative side was the lack of choice for breakfast but yet for this price the food was great.
Both metro station - opera and sol, are very close. The Arenal street has cafes, restaurants, food, cloths...just everything you could possibly need.

I am puzzled as to why this place has such incredible reviews. The hotel is sticky average - on first glance, it comes across as a functional, clean hotel in a great location a few minutes from puerta del sol. But on closer examination, many things will make your stay downright uncomfortable. The bathrooms have transparent glass - while this could be sexy in the shower area, here, the semi transparent glass gives all inhabitants of the room a full view of the toilet seat. For many, this could be a little too much exposure - especially if you are sharing a room with someone not you are not intimate with. Other little things that are annoying: the safe requires you to deposit a euro every time you use it. If you leave your wallet in there and need to retrieve it 5 minutes later, be prepared to deposit another one euro coin. There is only one trash can in the room. The hotel has done a good job of sound proofing from the street but you will still hear everything from the neighboring rooms. Lastly, The staff are polite but not particularly friendly or open to queries. As an unrelated tip, there is a fabulous Thai restaurant just next to the hotel, with great Lunch and dinner deals, if you tire of tapas. Overall, this hotel may be worthwhile if you get a great deal but we paid 120 euros per night and were not impressed.

The location is absolutely great! It's along Calle del Arenal which is a pedestrian-only street full of restos, cafes, shops. Our room had a great view from the balcony. The modern theme is something to my liking. The staff are friendly as well. And the rates are competitive. I cant really say anything bad about this hotel. I highly recommend it. :)

We stayed at Hotel Francisco I for three nights and were really thrilled with the hotel. Our room was on the small side but that doesn't matter to us - what matters is a clean and comfortable room, which our room exceeded in both. The room was modern, the bath was spotless and the bed was extremely comfortable - what more could you ask for?

What I loved about the hotel was the ease of it all - Madrid was our first stop in Spain, which was completely new to us. Getting to the hotel was super easy - we took the Cercanías from the airport to the Sol stop and then it was a short walk down the pedestrian street. When we arrived at the hotel the staff was friendly and very helpful - something that continued throughout our stay. Even though it was before noon we were let into our room. And finally the hotel is close to everything we wanted to see - there are great bars and restaurants a short walk away.

The hotel is right on a pedestrian street so at night you step right into the crowds, which can be pretty intense especially on the weekends. We found no problem with the street noise as the windows are soundproof.

Our rate did include the breakfast which was perfectly fine - pastries, coffee, bread, meat and cheese - the standard continental breakfast. We did not go hungry though I'm not sure I would have paid for it if it were not included in our rate.

Overall Francisco I was a super bargin for us and really made for a pleasant stay in Madrid.

Room Tip: Don't be afraid to ask for a room overlooking the street - the windows are soundproof so you don...

The hotel had been recently modernised and so far exceeded our expectation of the 2* it was stated to be. Our room was clean warm and comfortable and the staff helpful on our arrival. Breakfast was continental which we expected and liked. An excellent central location to easily walk to parks, churches, historic buildings, theatres, parks, bars, cafes, restaurants, shops, the wonderful Mercado San Miguel (if you like tapas) and the Christmas markets in December.
We would come again and definitely recommend it to family and friends.

Room Tip: Get a room at the rear. Whilst it is nice overlooking the pedestrian precinct in a front room it is...
