“Ideal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2013

We spent 7 days at the Hotel Francisco I. The hotel is clean and very comfortable, recently redesigned + reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and helpful. The location is ideal, as all places of interest are withing walking distance (museums, Parque del Retiro, Atocha station, etc.). Breakfast is rather poor. Everything else is just perfect.
If you ask for a room with a window (small balcony on Calle Arenal, you'll have the privilege of hearing excellent street players - not till late at night, so you'll get a good sleep).
Air conditioning is good and windows are totally soundproof.
f you travel with the fast speed train (AVE), you do not have to pay for the train from Atocha station to Sol, where the hotel is located, just go to Attención al Cliente, and they'll give you a free ticket.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window (same price)

As others have mentioned, this hotel is indeed a great option for its location and price. The hotel is close to Puerta del Sol & Plaza Mayor, well served with metro and restaurants and coffee shops around.
The rooms were modern and clean, and the service was very good!
I had read on some reviews that the area was not quiet, but once we were in the room we could hear the noise outsider, and it was not like the street was packed during the night.
The breakfast is probably the area that needs to be improved, but there was really nothing we could disaprove.

We stayed here for 2 nights while in Madrid. Hotel was in a very central location, and within walking distance to all the main tourist attractions. Easy to get to from the train station (although a bit of a walk - about 20-30 minutes), but it is right between 2 metro stations. The hotel itself has been recently redone and is exceptionally clean and modern. The rooms are HUGE with private balconies and large windows. There is also tv and wifi, and the beds are very large. The staff is friendly and you can leave your luggage there after checking out if you want to explore. The rooms were also quiet, especially for being in such a busy location. Great value and were very pleased with the hotel overall. Would definitely stay here again!

This hotel was a susprise for us because for some reason we did not expect it so good. The rooms have nothing very special but are nice and clean. The location is a big plus, it is close to many central metro stasions, very close to Plaza Mayor and other sights. I think is a great value for money hotel.

Look no further if you're looking for budget accommodation in the heart of Madrid city! Located on Calle Arenal, between Opera and Sol metros, the hotel is walking distance from Puerta de Sol and Plaza Mayor; other attractions are 15-20 mins away. Our room was great with breakfast included, all for an attractive price considering we visited during peak season. Would certainly recommend this hotel.

Great tip: Just around the corner is Chocolateria de San Gines, the best place in town for yummy chocolate con churros ;)

From the minute we walked through the doors we were looked after. A porter helped us up the stairs and to our room with our cases. There are steps up to the Reception and to the lifts.
Our room was on the 5th floor. The room was modern and stylish. The room was spacious with a bathroom at the end through glass sliding doors. The bathroom didn't have blinds so it was difficult to sleep once the sun had risen as it was so light. The air conditioning was put to full use as the temperature was some 37C!
The breakfast was well stocked with a selection of pastries, bread and cereal. Fresh fruit would have been a welcome addition.
The reception staff booked us an airport transfer at a reasonable rate of 30E. We were able to freshen up in the bathroom before leaving at the end of our days sightseeing.
We would definately recommend this hotel to visitors to the city. It is well located with easy access to the many attractions.
The staff were helpful, friendly and attentive.
