What is really great about this hotel is that there is no street noise at all. Set on a quiet square, there is no significant thorough traffic possible so it is quiet. And you can walk to most anywhere in central Madrid from this hotel-we never even used public transit. Around the corner from this hotel is a true neighborhhod joint with formica tables and teriffic tapas where the locals seem to go for a drink and a bite on the way home. The hotel itself is very well managed-clean,light, well appointed, excellent breakfast buffet, comfortable spacious room with balcony view over the roofs of Madrid. The major department store (with basement supermarket for room picnics) is two short blocks away. Highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: High floor with balcony for views

This hotel was lovely! It is centrally located between Gran Via, Sol and many plaza's! Our room was very large with a great balcony overlooking the city. It was beautiful. The bed was comfortable and the rooms were nice and clean. Even though it was an older hotel, it really didn't feel that way. The staff were helpful and very nice. The only "problem" we had was our cab driver not able to find the hotel at first. The entrance of the hotel is a bit peculiar being that it really isn’t on a main road. I’d print a map or write down the major cross streets in case you have the same problem. Other than that, it was a great hotel at a great price. Can’t beat that!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a large balcony! It was awesome!!

Visited this Hotel in Sept with friends - Very Central for everything at Least Three metro stations within easy walking distance,Plenty of Good Returants in the immediate area, all of which are good value for a Capital City.
Got Yellow Bus from Airport (5 Euros each) to Banhof (Station) then Taxi from there to Hotel - as has been mentioned on previous reviews make sure you state name of hotel clearly or ask for Playa san martin, also beware some Taxi drivers try to rip you of if you go from station claiming a tax for being transported from the station!!!
Breakfast in the Hotel is very good and they will do a cooked breakie if you ask, also ate during the evening at the Hotel outside on the Plaza it was very good and excellent value.
Do the Bus tour(Both of them) as they do explain quite a lot about this City and you can use them to hop on and off at your convienience to explore!!
Had good room on top floor facing inward, which meant it was very quite and gave very good sleep quality.
If you get chance take a Train Trip for the day to Toledo(used to be the old Capital)Trains would put the U.K.s Ramshackle system to Shame - cost about 18 Euros each return then get bus from Station to City (Built on a Hill).
All in all a good quality Capital City Center Hotel well worth a visit!

Room Tip: Try to get top floor facing inward.

Good older grand hotel in a small "square" ideally placed for the Grand Via, Plaza Mayor and the royal palace.
Our room was very large overlooking the square. Rooms appear to be dark and their are some strange noises from the heating system. Overall is was a well priced hotel. It lacked a real bar area but the outside terrace was spacious and the service good with friendly staff but drinks were fairly expensive. With a little more attention to detail and renovation it could be a great hotel.
Breakfast is expensive in the hotel but there are plenty of better price places to eat nearby.

One word of caution, when using a taxi make sure you have the name and address written down otherwise you could find yourself heading towards Chamartin Railway Station rather then Plaza San Martin, we were not the only visitor that had this experience.

2 mins walk from Callao metro station and Gran Via - 5 mins Puerto del Sol and less than 10 mins to Mercado San Miguel and Palacio Real - couldnt be better. Staff quite helpful. Only down side was the cost of breakfast - at 23 euros each very over-priced. However Valor Churrerio just around the corner is excellent for tradition churros and chocolate for E3.20, and plenty of other choices for the non churro addict! We asked for a quiet room and that was what we got. Spotlessly clean although could have been larger but perfectly adequate. Very comfortable bed.. Free Wifi a great help.

Room Tip: Ask for what you want - avoid a front-facing room although the traffic is not directly outside and n...

This hotel was a delightful surprise as it is centrally located and very elegant for the price (90 euros for a double). Conveniently located between the Sol and Opera Metro stations, it is within walking distance of many of the main sightseeing attractions.

For dining, make sure to check out the San Miguel market, an upscale eating experience...with gourmet food at reasonable prices...however there is little seating and you may end up standing. There are also some charming restaurants around this market. Close by is the Museo del Jamon, which offers delicious baguette sandwiches with the cured Spanish ham for only 1.50 euros. Also check out the historical Placa Mayor which is very close to the hotel.

If you are tempted to purchase the vacuum packed chorizos/ham to take back to the US, be aware that they will confiscate it if you declare it upon arriving back in US customs.

Wine in Spain is very cheap and quite good. We found the Cune tinto (red) to be delicious as well as the Verdejo white.

I stayed at the Intur Palacio with my mother. We were on a holiday and wanted an accommodation with a good location, and the location of the hotel really is excellent, almost right next to the Callao and Opera metro stations. The breakfast was delicious, I was especially pleased with the good selection of fresh fruit they provided. The staff were really friendly and helpful. My mom speaks some Spanish but for me it was a relief that I could communicate with the members of the staff in English.

However, there were a couple things we weren't that pleased with. Some of the rooms are located so that the only window in the room faces the hotel lounge, that is, the area where guests can spend time, chat and have drinks. Unfortunately our room was one of these. The restaurant/bar in the lounge was open til midnight and the noise came straight to our room, where we had some trouble falling asleep. Be sure to ask for a room that is located somewhere else if you wish to go to bed relatively early, like we did.

The hotel is supposed to have a free WIFI. I didn't have the chance to try it as I didn't have my laptop with me. This is why I was particularly pleased when I saw a guest computer in the lounge. Using this computer, however, was not such a delight. It was so very slow that the first time I tried to use the Internet it did not open any websites. I went to the reception to ask if I had to pay something so that they would somehow "unblock" the computer, but no, the answer was: "It's free, but it's veeeery slow." And so it was. Why torture your guests with a computer that is free but half the time doesn't even work? For a 4 star hotel, I would expect more. Buying a new computer with a faster Internet connection would not cost that much and it would make guests satisfied, I assume.

The third thing bothering us was the air conditioning and the general quality of air in our room. We could feel the air becoming thicker that instant we turned off the AC, so we would've liked to keep it on. Unfortunately, the air vent was located right on the opposite side of our bed, so that when my mother was laying on her side of the bed, she could feel the cool air practically blowing in her face. Scared of catching the flu, she had to arrange the blanket to partly cover her face in order to sleep...

Even though there were some "flaws", we are quite happy with our experience and would recommend Intur Palacio to other people.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not have a window facing the lounge.
