“very good location”
Reviewed March 17, 2013 via mobile

we just left the hotel today and wish to share our experience .
the hotel is well located . The hotel is impressive as well as very clean . The business lounge provides excellent breakfast with a large variety of products
the lounge is nicely decorated and offers intimacy to its guests . The refreshments throughout the day are also to be appreciated .
if you are coming with kids ( a 3rd bed) be aware that some rooms )even club rooms ) are not providing sufficient space , so make sure to specifically indicate it .it took us about an hour (at 1. AM ) to get a suitable room for 3 people . One would would expect a hotel like intercontinental to prepare the room in advance (as per booking ) and not to wait for house keeping to bring a 3rd bed at 1:00 AM and start preparing .
On the other hand I'd like to positively comment the nice cake we had revived from the hotel for my daughter's birthday .
very nice gesture .
The bathroom is well equipped and the shower is functioning very well .
I'd recommend the rooms facing the back side as they are more quiet that those facing the Main Street . I am not sure how the double glazed windows are functioning
Overall the experience was very satisfying and I certainly recommend the hotel .

Stayed at the InterContiental Madrid from 5.3.13 - 8.3.13, firstly all the staff were really helpful and friendly, hotel reception area was immaculate, we upgraded to a club room for 55 euros a day which mean't we had breakfast included and access to the club bar which served drinks and snacks. Wow amazing room, bed was so comfortable and huge, bathroom was spacious and also very clean. Breakfast was nice, lots of choice and I like the fact that it was available until 11am. The location was great for us as we like to walk and there is an excellent metro system in Madrid once you grid yourselves. We explored the city and also took a train to Toledo which is amazing, so impressed with their transport systems. Overall nothing to really fault and would stay here again if returning to Madrid, can't wait to try another InterContinental.

Room Tip: Quiet room at the back , upgrade to a club room if possible.

Firstly the positives; every staff member we came across was efficient and courteous, from the doorman to the concierge, the service was speedy and accommodating. Location is good. Beds comfortable. Rooms clean. Breakfast has a decent selection of foods on offer (we loved the fact they had churros and poras on offer but they were cold and there was no proper chocolate sauce to go with them!).

However, we left the hotel feeling somewhat underwhelmed. It is a very dated property, i'm not one for philippe stark interiors but the rooms were clearly last updated in the early 90s, the restaurant where one has breakfast was a hommage to 1985 interior design, and poorly maintained at that (all the paint was peeling away on the window panes). When we checked in we were allocated a room on the 4th floor overlooking the Paseo de la Castellana which was incredibly noisy, we called down to reception and were swiftly moved to another room down the corridor, however this room was a disabled room and we are both able bodied so the fixtures and fittings were awkward, as was the layout of the room. The hotel was clearly far from busy so we were surprised and somewhat disappointed that we should have been moved to such a room but we had been travelling all day and didn't have the energy to ask to be moved again. An upgrade of linens should also be considered as our bath towels were frayed and the curtains were bobbly and dirty.

We paid 25% less for this hotel than we would have paid had we stayed at the westin or the ritz so all things considered the price point was fair but don't come here expecting luxury, quality slippers, fluffy bathrobes or high end decor, this place is comfortable, serves a purpose but shan't wow.

Stayed on one of the top floors that had a balcony. View was good. It's in a great location, fairly close to all the tourist attractions. Room was clean and very cozy. The staff was friendly. No complaints here.

I stayed at the Intercontinental Madrid for a business conference in January and was generally impressed with the hotel rooms, facilities, food, and bar. Although my room did not have much view, overlooking an internal courtyard, the bed was very comfortable, generous size and very clean and well-kept. My room was on an upper floor and the water pressure was frequently low when taking a shower in the morning. This was the only negative I experienced. The breakfast buffet has a good variety of high quality foods. Many evening were spent at the hotel bar having a few relaxing drinks with colleagues while watching a football match. The service was prompt and courteous throughout the hotel. There are a few restaurants in the area, but not as many options as in central Madrid. Overall, a good location. I would stay here again.

What a relaxing sanctuary. Elegant and peaceful. Just loved staying here. It's a classic style hotel, so if you are looking for trendy this isn't your place. But it's great for a business trip. The food is great too.

Agree with other posts that the staff provided great service. Usually don't stay at this flag in the US but have stayed at two in Europe in the last year and both experiences has been good. Upgrading to the club lounge is great if you are staying a few days. Good access to metro system and walking distance to shopping and restaurants. Room was nice and bathroom was well appointed.
