Firstly the positives; every staff member we came across was efficient and courteous, from the doorman to the concierge, the service was speedy and accommodating. Location is good. Beds comfortable. Rooms clean. Breakfast has a decent selection of foods on offer (we loved the fact they had churros and poras on offer but they were cold and there was no proper chocolate sauce to go with them!).
However, we left the hotel feeling somewhat underwhelmed. It is a very dated property, i'm not one for philippe stark interiors but the rooms were clearly last updated in the early 90s, the restaurant where one has breakfast was a hommage to 1985 interior design, and poorly maintained at that (all the paint was peeling away on the window panes). When we checked in we were allocated a room on the 4th floor overlooking the Paseo de la Castellana which was incredibly noisy, we called down to reception and were swiftly moved to another room down the corridor, however this room was a disabled room and we are both able bodied so the fixtures and fittings were awkward, as was the layout of the room. The hotel was clearly far from busy so we were surprised and somewhat disappointed that we should have been moved to such a room but we had been travelling all day and didn't have the energy to ask to be moved again. An upgrade of linens should also be considered as our bath towels were frayed and the curtains were bobbly and dirty.
We paid 25% less for this hotel than we would have paid had we stayed at the westin or the ritz so all things considered the price point was fair but don't come here expecting luxury, quality slippers, fluffy bathrobes or high end decor, this place is comfortable, serves a purpose but shan't wow.
