“dark and dingy, terrible atmosphere”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2012

Stayed here for a couple of nights in July. The guys at reception are great, but shame about the actual hostel.

The rooms are dark and dingy. The bunk beds squeak like crazy and are not very comfortable. The locker underneath my bed did not work (i.e. you could pull it open even though it was meant to be locked. There was only one power point in the 10-bed dorm. I think it was the same all round, since there were people in the hallways sitting next to their phones and laptops waiting for them to charge. Breakfast was some bread, and packets of biscuits. There was a woman guarding the cereal and coffee and I kinda felt guilty taking the food as she was there staring at me.

The showers weren't great - a cubicle with nowhere to hang or put your stuff so it all gets wet. The shower on my floor was really dark, can't remember if one of the lights were out, or if it was just like that. There also wasn't anywhere to get dressed after the shower because it's all so small.

The people in my dorm were great, but in the rest of the hostel there was It's a young person's hostel, everyone is around 18 and out to get super drunk. If this is not your scene, I would avoid this hostel.

One plus is that the location is good, just around the corner from the Prado and close to the mains squares and sites. Also it is cheap, but even if you are on a budget, I would suggest paying more to stay somewhere better.

I spent there 3 nights. And first 2 nights I stayed alone in Mix dorm for 10 person. The were a lot of bathrooms and they were clean and comfortable. But there was no any shelve in the shower cabin to put on washing accessories. And the water didn´t get warm well. The locker was a little bit small. But to put worthy things it´s enough. The kitchen was very comfortable. And they have a good terrace. The stuff was perfect. They helped me in all my questions.

We were there for a couple of nights, it has a great location since you're right on Atocha, which goes thru the heart of Madrid. You do have to compromise quiteness at night for such a good location though.OK breakfast. Nice bathrooms and Angela in reception knows the most important stuff about Madrid and is the one with the best attitude.

The hostel itself is in a great location, you can basically walk to anywhere from there. I liked the hotel staff, they were really kind and they had activities organized every day, shame we were too tired to join for anything. Breakfast was good and internet provided, the only bad thing was the kitchen facilities. I've never seen such a small kitchen in a hostel and I've been around a lot... So it's space only for one to cook at time which ment we always had to wait quite a long time. We stayed in a 8-mixed dorm, nice to have a bathroom only for the room to share, but the beds were not that good...

I've spent two separate weekends at this hostel, and have been quite satisfied with the facilities and service. The bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and common room are always clean, and there are enough bathrooms that I've never had to wait for a toilet or shower. The free wi-fi connection is strong, and there are 4 computers available for guest use. Free breakfast is standard hostel fare: cornflakes, toast, juice, coffee, pastries, and fruit. Its location on Calle de Atocha is excellent -- just a few blocks away from the Metro station, and within walking distance of Sol, Plaza Mayor, Retiro, Atocha train stations, and the main museums. My only complaints would be the lack of individual reading lamps in dorm beds and the limited breakfast hours of 8-10 (breakfast should begin at 7 or 7:30, in order to accommodate those with early departure times.)

I have stayed in a 16-mixed dorm room. The beds were comfortable and rooms were kept clean. The shower booths were abit too small for my liking but that's not a big issue. There are only two electricity sockets in the room but many in the common room. Wifi is only available in the common area. The kitchen are well-stocked and they provide grocery so you can cook basic meal like rice and spaghetti. Anything more you have to buy your own. Overall, the experience was great and location is really good. I would definitely go back again.
