“Pleasant old fashion hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2011

The hotel is a little outside the hussle of Madrid, but don't let that stop you as you are just minutes away from the heart of Madrid, as the metro (alonzo martinez) is just a two minute walk away from the hotel.

Checkin was very quick and staff was plesant and spoke English - upon checkin, we were given a map of the city and 1 room card (found out later that you may be able to get a second room card if you stay is long enough). For those that are a little senior, you will have to climb 10 steps from the lobby to get to the 2 elevators (typical European small ones), but they do have a wheel chair lift to get you to the elevators. Lobby is a little old fashion in look, but clean and does have plenty of sofas in case you have to wait for others.

Our room followed the theme of old fashion look, but it was a good size. Bathroom was clean and included a shower/bath combo with a bidet and toilettries were good and restocked daily. Our bed did have a full size king mattress (which was a surprise) and comfie pillows, but the mattress was a little creeky in my opinion (as I could hear the springs at times when I turned), but it did not prevent a good sleep. Room also included a trowser press, 27 inch lcd tv with a few English channels, a safe that does tightly fit a 15 inch laptop, a mini fridge and 10 hangers in the closet. Air conditioning was very good to combat the warm weather and the room did have 2 windows that fully opened.

On the negative side, walls were very thin, as I could easily hear the room laughter of our neighbours (even in the bathroom) and the wifi did cut out on me more than a few times.

Hotel bonus aspects - there was a grocery store just a few minute walk away and open until 9 pm, the Alonzo Martinez metro is really good as it connects to the line that takes you to the airport and is 4 stops from the estadio bernabeu, 2 stops to Gran Via and 5 stops to Venas stop all without transfering, as this metro has 3 lines running through it. The neighbourhood itself is pretty quiet and safe at night with plenty of places to eat within a 5-10 minute walk.

Check out was very quick and we were able to store our luggage at no charge after we checked out before departing Madrid.

All in all, for the price, location and hotel comfort, we enjoyed our 6 night stay that this hotel.

for the price we paid the hotel was terrific value for money. It is nicely located in a quiet street. Paying extra for breakfast (some 9 euros) is well worth it: large selection in an all-you-can-eat style. The rooms are nice and functional. The only - serious - drawback is the bad noise isolation of the rooms: you do hear things if the neighbours turn up the volume. For a hotel of this standing that should not be acceptable. Overall, however, it is a good option for Madrid.

I needed to stay for 1 night in Madrid and found this hotel price was very reasonable for a 4 Star hotel anyhow i booked checked in Staff was friendly and helpful the place is located in old Madrid 10 minutes walk from the Center, The hotel was old with signs of wear but clean and well maintained but by all means its not 4 Stars! I would say its one of those rare good 3 Stars hotels, The room was spacious and clean 30 inch LCD with few international TV channels like CNN BBC Jazeera etc... toilet was large with a bathtub and its very clean, WIFI is fast and free and covers the entire hotel which is very convenient the only downside of this place was when i asked the front desk for a Tri-Socket to charge my laptop they sold it to me for 8 Euros!!! Its always offered for free in every hotel that i staid in Europe ! But still i would recommend this place its very good for the price i hope you find my review useful to you...

We stayed at the Hotel Gran Versalles for seven nights over World Youth Day in August, 2011. The city was packed with young people from all over the world and as we talked to various groups, we were so pleased to have a hotel right in the center of everything.

I am sure that it is a huge pain to accommodate pilgrims in a hotel as nice as the Gran Versalles. The staff was amazing and very helpful with all of the various needs we had. The rooms and common areas were very clean and the internet was very reliable in the lobby. The WiFi worked well in some areas of the hotel, but we did have some difficulty in other areas. When needing a space for some short video interviews we were conducting, the hotel offered a conference room to us for a brief period of time at no charge.

The food was excellent as well, including the breakfast bar full of standard amenities, but still very nicely presented. all in all, this is a hotel that I would not only recommend to someone else but would definitely plan on staying in if I ever make it back to Madrid. The hotel was a half block from the nearest Metro stop which was extremely easy to get around the city on.

Thanks to the staff for an excellent stay at the Gran Versalles!

Room Tip: Rooms in the north part of the building seemed to get better WiFi reception than on the South side.

Recommend this hotel. Standard amenities. Clean and modern. Excellent breakfast buffet. Relatively inexpensive (away from usual tourist traps). Situated on a quiet side street.

Metro Alonso Martinez is just around the corner, 15-20 min ride to virtually anywhere in the city. We were walking everywhere and it was only 1.5 miles to Prado or Retiro, and 2 miles to Atocha train station.

A landmark tapas bar Santa Barbara is very close too.

I stayed for three days on business in Feb 2011. I'm not familiar with Madrid and wanted a comfortable hotel with easy access to the centre and the airport. The hotel is roomy, located in a residential part of Madrid, on a pretty quiet street and only a 15 minute walk from the main tourist, shopping and entertainment area of Gran Via. It has wonderful metro access, less than a 5 min walk from the Alonso Martinez metro stop. The hotel was clean and the room was well appointed - in a slightly gaudy yellow and blue colour scheme, pretty roomy and quiet. The ensuite bathroom loked like it had recently been refurbished and was immaculate. The room safe wouldn't lock and there are no tea-making facilities. The staff were helpful and service was very good. Internet and printing is available near reception. The local area has several good cafes, restaurants and bars, many have been there for generations. I would recommend the Gran Versalles as a comfortable mid-range hotel in a good location. The metro network is modern, efficient and really simple to navigate.

Room Tip: some rooms are in a quiet part of the hotel, away from the foyer and via a quiet lift towards the re...
