Excellent Location with a wealth of very very good Restaurants in walking distance. Very kind and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast Buffet. Quiet rooms towards the Pool. However isolation between Rooms should be better.

We are often in Madrid and the last for visits we have stayed at the Wellington. We love the borough and know it well. We use to stay at a hotel close by that closed down. We are happy with our choice. Very diligent personnel, The renovated rooms 5th floor are of a comfortable size and quiet. Breakfast is delicious. The bar needs a face lift, it isn't too cosy. In our last stay we enjoyed riding 2 wooden bikes thatnthe hotel rents out. As it we found out we were the first ones to ride them. Th hotel offered some different picnic menus and we set off with a basket and a blanket crisscrossing El Retiro. It was lots of fun only the 36 °C were a bit outrageous but it was great.

We knew we would be out most of the time so four friends booked 2 Twin rooms. Spacious, well decorated and spotless. The only downside was a lack of tea and coffee making facilities - but there's always room service and we zipped up Calle Velasquez to Starbucks and the local coffee shop for early morning refreshments. Pool and pool service fantastic. Staff super friendly but not overbearing. The best location just metres from the north side of the gorgeous Retiro Park and short walk to the Prado Art Gallery. So, very close to the fantastic Salamanca and Serrano shopping areas. Everything from Louis Vuitton and Prado to Zara - to fit all budgets. Great tapas restaurants and coffee shops walkable nearby. Quick, cheap taxi rides to anywhere in Madrid and a taxi rank right outside the hotel. We will be back for sure.

Who is writing these reviews of the Wellington Hotel, the Management or staff?
Reviewers comment on the quality of the rooms and the polities of the staff the location etc, one expects that as standard in a 5* hotel without question. My family have been in the hotel “business” (the Grand Metropolitan group) over many years and we have been in 5* and 5* plus hotels in many countries but we have never been in such an overpriced hotel with so little consideration and courtesy for quests. One expects standard items in ones room, eg kettle, coffee, milk, sugar, cups. We requested a kettle we got a kettle nothing else. I asked (with tongue in cheek) can I bring in my own coffee etc, that was OK. I remind you this a 5* hotel and I would have to purchase these items just to have a cup of coffee in my room something that is standard in any 3 4 or 5* hotel.
If I wished to have a “do not disturb” sign for my room, again a standard item in any hotel I have been in it would have cost me 35 Euros. In the famous words of the tennis player John McEnroe “you cannot be serious”.
There is a saying “a fool and their money are easily parted“, we have the money but spend it wisely! Yes, yes, yes the hotel was very plush, staff very friendly etc but I expect that in any hotel, however, their policy for catering to guests is totally outdated and leaves must to be desired. I do not expect a “thank you” response on the Trip Advisor website but I will be writing to the Management expressing my views in more detail and advising them how a modern hotel is managed for their guests.
RQ

Room Tip: Room was quiet and well managed but room service overpriced
