“Madrid to Marbella and back again”
Reviewed April 21, 2012

We stayed at Hotel Lope de Vega in early April, 2012. We first stayed for four nights while we toured Madrid, then we bounced back for a quick overnight before we left Spain. The room was good, with a comfortable king sized bed and a pull out couch. There was a pocket door that separated the bedroom from the living room area. We also had a lovely patio (a 7th floor balcony) that had a lounge chair and a table and two chairs.

The hotel offers free wifi, apples and mints in a bowl in the hallway, writing paper and amenity packages with toothbrushes, razors, toothpaste, shaving cream, comb, tissues, and a sewing kit. There was also shower gel and shampoo. Very convenient!

We did not eat breakfast here as it was very expensive. There was a great bakery around the corner and a cute organic cafe up the street where we were able to eat. I'd also recommend tapas and cervezas at La Delores, which is locted on the corner of Lope de Vega as you proceed up the hill.

We liked this location. The Prado and Botanical Gardens were about a block away and we were able to walk to Reina Sofia, Puerta del Sol and the Royal Palace. We found that our tourbook maps were somewhat deceptive in that things were much closer than they seemed to be.

Perfect location for visiting the museums and then going out at night. Lively neighborhood is just a street or two over, so you can get drinks and tapas at several spots, but the hotel is quiet. Clean, efficient, no frills hotel, with veeeery slow wifi. But all in all a good value and a pleasurable stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony for some added charm

Positive: Very good location, close to center of city, close to main rail station, freindly staff.
Negative: Beds can be a bit cleaner, although was quite ok. A bit more verity of breakfast can make this hotel a very good place to saty.

We stayed with our family (2 couple with one child) and we were statisfied.

This hotel is across the street from the Prado, close to the train and metro, and city center. The staff are helpful and friendly. This is a business-class hotel, so no frills but excellent value. I had a room with a little patio.

Room Tip: I believe I asked for a room on the inside courtyard.

Perfect location for visiting museums & gardens.
Very friendly & exceptionally helpful desk staff.
Buffet breakfast really varied & quite good.
Room very clean and beds very comfortable.
Plain room with modern bathroom and a little patio (back room, not on street side of building). Earplugs blocked all noise from adjoining rooms.
Will definitely stay there again & again.

A perfect starting point each day. Walked to hotel from train station with suitcase, stroller and 1yo. Very short walk.

Don't ask the guy next to the train station (newspaper guy) for directions. I had a 1yo with me and said "excuse me may I ask you a question?". He said "no". I speak Spanish so it wasn't a language barrier. I thought he must be joking and said "I just need to know which direction is the Prado museum". He answered "did you not hear me? I said no questions.". And he didn't tell me!! I don't care how bad your day is, there is no excuse to be that rude.

Madrid is not as kid friendly as Barcelona. Hi chairs are scarce. We took a fabric chair that attaches to ANY chair and were fine.

Hotel was great. We arrived early and they accommodated it. Didn't do breakfast, as it was cheaper out of hotel, and more varied.

Great hotel for visiting museums too!!

My wife and I enjoyed our stay in Hotel Lope da Vega, Madrid. The hotel room was very clean, the staff were pleasant and helpful. While our room faced the street, we had no issues with noise etc. The excellent and varied breakfast set us up for a busy day's sightseeing. The hotel is ideally situated opposite the Prado and enables a visitor to be close to all of the sights of central Madrid. It was our first visit and we thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful city.
