Stayed one night in a standard room. Room decor very 1980's European, old style beds and linen, dark wooden furniture, heavy drapes, dark marble in the bathroom, slightly worn carpeting and wallpaper. However it was clean, has excellent shower pressure, opening windows and i had an excellent sleep courtesy of the great pillows and very low noise levels. Lobby decorated in the same slightly heavy and dark style, lobby bar has no atmosphere at all. Elevators are located up 2 steps so i am not sure how a wheelchair guest may reach their room. Excellent breakfast, up to the standards of UK or US style buffet. Staff are competent and have good English, they just don't like smiling or initiating assistance. Hotel is located within a 10 minute walk of 3 Metro Stations, access to the city is very easy, also a bus to the City Centre ( SOL) is only 3 minutes away. There is always a taxi waiting outside, Barrajas Airport is about 25 minutes away. The area around the hotel is quiet and upmarket, feels very safe, nice choice of restaurants. I can recommend this hotel if you don't need to be right in the middle of Madrid.

Melia Galgos was okay, just a bit dated back to the 70's and room smelled of cigar, other than that it was fine. It was pretty close to our bus route and attractions. I will probaby stay at a different hotel next time around.

Stayed for several days at hotel while visiting Madrid. Room was clean and is well appointed bathrooms also to satisfaction. Internet service was terrible. To have access in room there is a charge of 12 euro a day; the signal quality is poor and the connection very erratic. Also the paid internet is only available for one machine, if you try to connect another machine it is not possible, big limitation to those who travel with several devices. Totally unable to use Skype, other connections worked irregularly. In the lobby there is also free internet; however, same quality issues. It appears they have a poor ISP and do nothing about it. The layout of the lobby is also inconvenient since the elevators are set higher than the lobby and you must go upstairs to reach them; not a good plan if you have luggage with rollers. Also at reception when we arrived we struggled with the luggage from our car on the street until we reached the front desk, at that time the smiling doorman approached us to ask if he could help with the luggage. The hotel also has a nice morning breakfast buffet which is very well appointed especially when you want more than the traditional Spanish breakfast, coffee and a roll.

The Meliá Galgos must be a throw back to when guests expected Spanish hotels to be monuments. The marble lobby, with serious tapestries and traditional furnishings, recalls classic palaces, providing a look that might have been stylish in the 1970s. Nonetheless, the hotel has aged well, and the Meliá brand is virtually a guarantee for excellent lodging.

My wife and I arrived after a transatlantic flight and took a quick taxi ride from the airport to the hotel. The nearest metro station, Nuñez de Balboa, is about 500 meters away, so travelers who have packed lightly might be able to use public transit from the airport—metro riders would have to negotiate many stairs to get from platform to street.

A doorman greeted the taxi and whisked our luggage away. We waited a few seconds for a receptionist to greet us, and he was able to check us in well before the official time. The doorman delivered our luggage to the room a few minutes after we went upstairs. Our standard room was small, with two comfortable twin beds, a small desk and chair, and an upholstered chair. Decorating in the room was more neutral than the lobby, and other than some worn carpeting the room was in excellent condition. The bathroom was large in comparison to the room, spotlessly clean, with fantastic towels and a generous supply of decent toiletries. Our rest was good, with insulated windows to muffle any street noise. The only dissatisfaction was slow wi-fi service in the room, which was not up to the standard to be expected for the substantial fee.

This hotel would be good for travelers with business in this part of Madrid. It’s rather far from tourist points of interest, although some travelers would welcome being away from the crowds. We’d be happy to return.

Very nice hotel with a good breakfast and centrally located to most tourist attractions. The room was adequate although it had a distinct smell (mold). The bed was comfortable and the shower was fine. I was disappointed with the gym but otherwise a nice place.
