“Pleasant Stay”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

We stayed two nights at this hotel and had a good stay. It is close to all the main attractions and well within walking distance of everything a tourist would be interested in. The free mini-bar is a nice addition as well. The building itself is a bit older, so not everything is shiny and new, but everything was clean. It felt like the hotel may have allowed smoking in recent times, as our non-smoking room had the slight smell of a smoking-allowed past. The bathrooms are fairly small as well, with not too much counter space. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was also not too hard to find street parking for the one night we had a car rental.

Room Tip: The higher floors have better views.

Stayed here for 3 nights on way to Southern Spain, having driven through France. Very small public areas but room was a good size and well equipped.

Hotel is close to Atocha station so good for rail travellers and very close to Reina Sofia Museum. The tour bus stop is about five minutes walk away although some of the other best sights are also within walking distance.

The hotel does not have a car park but there is an arrangement for a discounted rate (14 euros a day) nearby - this seems very reasonable for the centre of a capital city.

There is a breakfast restaurant with a good buffet at 16.50 euros inc. tax or there are plenty of cafes and bars for cheaper options nearby. Other meals from a limited menu can be served in your room or in the lounge bar - these seemed somewhat unimaginative and quite expensive but reception gave us a good dinner recommendation around the corner.

One feature of AC Hotels is free wifi in public areas and the free soft drinks minibar, replenished daily, which is a nice touch and helps make the price good value. Big TV with BBC World.

Our only problem was having to move to a superior room for our third night as water was apparently leaking into the room below but I guess this can happen anywhere and the staff helped us move rooms.

So, good quality at a mid price in a good location as long as you are not looking for fine dining or a a big lounge bar.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor and overlooking the side street or courtyard to reduce traffic noise.

We stayed at the AC Carlton Madrid, and were extremely pleased with every aspect of the Hotel. It's owned by Marriot, and is more along the lines of a Marriot Courtyard, rather than the full service Marriott. Great location, within walking distance to just about everything, including the Hop On / Hop Off Tour Bus route, which was three minutes from the hotels's front door. The Atocha Train station is also ust a five minute walk, which saves on Taxi Fares, as we traveled into, and out of Madrid via the Train. A free Mini-Bar with water, juices, and sodas, is a nice touch as well.

Very good, standard business-like hotel very close to Atocha station. We stayed two nights and chose this hotel primarily for its proximity to the station. We had to take a very early train and it just took us about 5 minutes to get to "Puerta de Atocha" to catch an AVE train to Seville. Getting to the airport was fairly easy as well via Metro. We walked to a Metro station two blocks away and, making two changes, got to the airport in about 45 minutes (it costs 5 euros each way)

Our stay was split in two, so we had two different rooms. One seemed bigger than the other. However, both rooms looked like they were recently renovated. Room had flat screen TVs, fairly comfortable beds, and very modern bathrooms. The only problem with the bathroom was that water splashes everywhere when you use the shower (there's only a small glass that covers 1/3 of the bathtub)
Best of all in the room was the mini-bar was complimentary. It comes stocked with 2 or 3 waters, 2 sodas, and 2 alcoholic (mixed) drinks. You don't see that very often!

In all, I would recommend this hotel if you need to stay close to Atocha station and if you can get a fair rate (we paid about 100 euros per night).

ps: the only few things that looked odd were: the elevators are tiny (fit at most 3 people), the safes in the room were of the old type (with key and not electronic) and we were not provided with a key, and there was no iron in the room (seems standard in Europe).

Picked this hotel as it was near Atocha station just a 5min walk. Had 2 very comfortable nights the room wasn't massive but was well designed with a large walk in shower . Room and overall hotel very clean. breakfast was the usual of bread eggs bacon ham cheeses and cereal, if you wanted fried or poached eggs you just had to ask. One of the reason I picked this hotel was the free wifi in the reception area which most hotels don't have . I got a very good deal with booking.com 2 nights with breakfast 208 euros.
We used the number 27 bus which runs every 10 mins that takes you right up the main road passing all the sights for €1.50 catch it opposite the hotel

Room Tip: We asked for a room at the back as this was alot quiter

The AC Carlton is located within a few minutes walk from the Atocha train station in Madrid. The hotel is on the small side, but it is very clean -both the lobby and and rooms. The main attraction that is close by is the Sofia Reina. Otherwise the location from other attractions seemed a bit further away.

I would give this hotel a 5 rating if I had more than one night there and experienced the same level of service consistantly. We stopped just for one night on our trip from Lisbon to Seville as the hotel is just a few blocks from Atocha Station--the main international train station in Madrid. Our room was very modern, beautifully designed and with more than adequate space. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Something one rarely sees: a refrigerator replete with not only water, but juice and sodas--complimentary. The beds were excellent and as alluded to above, the location was very good as well. A top value as well as the price was what one would normally pay for a 2 star in the USA.
