If you are after functional, friendly and economical accommodation in the middle of Madrid, this small hotel is the place. It is not for those who want luxury and room. It is close to the Plaza major and the Grand Via - you walk out of the hotel into the vibrant city of Madrid. I would use it again in the future.

check your map - this is so central but only easy to find first time, if you approach it the correct way ie down street Gran Via from Callao metro, heading towards Gran Via metro, taking 2nd right opposite Zara shop (200metres) then a doorway 40 metres on left hand side.
Location is a big,big plus - easy walking to Plaza Sol 5 mins, Calle Arenal 7 mins and Plaza Mayor 10 mins.

no so much of a plus - noisy outside through the night, locals rather than tourists
bit of a smell from drains in the rooms - (tip) keep using the lights which fire up the bathroom ventilator

corridors and rooms are red, both wallpaper and tiles, & funky !. Small but very clean & comfortable.Towels changed daily.
receptionist couldn't do enough ; friendly staff
breakfast is basic, 15 metres away, at a very basic cafe
but several places to eat & drink within 25 metres ! which is another big bonus after arriving late or after a full day's waliking round the city.

Not too sure about value for money, as our trip paid for by daughter, but reckon its low budget
subject to reasonable comparisons on price, would recommend this as funky but no frills in a central location, great for 2-4 nights.

The hostel is a great little hostel, slap bang city centre. It is however, incredibly difficult to find, make sure you look into the doorways for the sign otherwise wou'll miss it like we did. We stayed in a double room (Number 3), it was small, but perfectly adequate for the two of us. The cava we received on valentines day was a lovely touch. Breakfast at the local cafe was just what we needed, a pastry and cup of tea/coffee. The staff at both the hostel and the cafe were very good. Although they didnt speak English, they still made an effort to explain things to us to cross the language barrier.

Close to the Plaza Mayor, Sol, and then Gran Via, the hostel couldn't have been better placed. Although we could hear the noise of the binmen outside, it did not out us off our sleep. The only downside was that the room we stayed in had a bit of a smell of drains each time we walked in, but again, it did not put us off.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay at Hostal Madrid, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a cheaper option in madrid.

If you're looking for a great value, well located place to stay in Madrid, then this place comes highly recommended. It's located on a side street, just off Grand Via and close to Callao, Grand Via and Sol metro stations. If you arrive at Callao, walk down Grand Via, past Plaza de Callao (on your right) and take the second right (on the opposite side of the road is the clothing store 'Zara'). The Hostal is at number 10, about 30 metres down on the left-hand side.

Once you've found the Madrid Inn, take the lift to the 4th floor, turn left out of the lift and walk through the door ahead. Like us, you'll get a lovely welcome and shown to your room. We were very happy with ours (room 11). This is a spacious twin room accessed via some steep stairs. As others have said, you are given a small bottle of cava as a welcome - a lovely touch. The room was very clean and really well presented. Wi-fi is available and is free to use.

Breakfast in the morning is taken at a popular cafe a few doors down from the Hostal. It's small but really worth having. You can have a coffee or hot chocolate with a pastry or tostada (toasted bread) with either butter or a tomato salsa. The latter is lovely!

As mentioned above the Hostal is close to a few metro stations. The Madrid metro is fantastic so make good use of it. If you are in the city for a few days, buy a tourist ticket. You can get them from the tourist/travel information office at the airport, located just before you go down to the metro station. Great value and you can use it to get to and from the airport. You can walk most of the central part of the city also.

All in all a great city to visit with great hosts at the Hostal Madrid Inn. And one last thing...the service didn't end when we left the hotel...we received an email after we left to thank us for our stay. Excellent!

Book as a Hotel and found out a Hostal. However, Rodrigo and Simona are very friendly and change my room to a bigger one. The location is perfect. They should change towels every day for the price they charge.

Room Tip: take room 4. Nice room

A lovely and clean hotel, with beautiful modern decor in bedroom and bathroom, and only 5 mins. from the Puerto Del Sol. We were greeted on our arrival with a small Cava and a genuine smile from the very friendly and helpful receptionist. Breakfast (toast / pastry and coffee) is at a little cafe a few doors down and just adds to the whole experience. We had 2 nights here and would definitely go back.
