I understand from the other reviews that there are two different kind of rooms on the hotel, so I suppose I've been lucky, as I got a very large room, well furnished (the huge Goya painting behind the bed was a nice touch), with a big bathroom, big cupboard and a pleasant view on the city (I was at the 9th floor). Also, even if it's not exactly in the center, it's close to a metro station and a big Corte Ingles.

Bed was very comfortable, everything was clean, staff helpful and I didn't find anything to complain in the breakfast either, so I can safely give it four stars.

Just a suggestion: be careful with the minibar, i think it's of that kind where moving something it's enough to get it added to your bill (and IMHO, this is not specified clearly enough BEFORE you open it...)

Dear guest, Thank you very much for your nice comments concerning your recent stay in our hotel. Following your room description we understand you stayed in one of our classic rooms (with the painting behind the bed), as you can see its all about personal impressions and preferences for one or another type of decoration. In the new Club Rooms the picture of the header has been delated. We thank you for your comments concerning Minibar, we will review this point to avoid overcharges . We suggest to check always your minibar invoice and inform our receptionist in case of overcharges due to an incorrect operation. Thank you again and we hope you visit us in a very near future, we will be very happy to welcome you! Best regards

I planned this trip as a surprise gift for my partner wanting it to be special as it coincided with Valentine's Day - it wasn't! Some of the pictures on the internet are accurate such as the ones of the lobby area and reception which is absolutely spotless and others are very deceiving particularly ones of the older rooms and the pool area. The original room we were allocated was a good size with a decent bathroom but the room itself was very tired looking with stains on the carpet and skirting boards and a very uncomfortable double mattress which also dipped in the middle. After my initial complaint on the first morning a member of reception staff offered me another room to look at but it appeared no different with regards to cleanliness, they just look like they haven't been touched since the 80s. We eventually found the pool area (you have to go right through the very busy and dirty looking gym area which is managed by an outside company called Holiday Gym and is open to the public - this is anything but a prestige company as the hotel literature suggests). There is no signage to explain that suitable footwear, a swimming cap and a padlock for the locker is required either on the website, in the hotel literature or in the hotel itself. The whole 'leisure' setup just appeared poorly organised and run and very dirty. We were offered one of the hotel's newly refurbished Club rooms, following our complaint about the leisure facilities, and these rooms look like they belong to a completely different hotel - they are spotless, well designed and decorated to a high standard. The downsides to both rooms we tried (including the club room) were that the air conditioning does not adjust to the required temperature so most of the time the room was boiling not helped by the fact the the windows do not open and are sealed closed. This however does not keep out the terrible noise from the street below at nights especially from the club directly outside the hotel. Breakfast was not a pleasant experience with extremely unhelpful and unfriendly staff (particularly one female supervisor who never wore a name badge so I cannot name and shame). Once again cleanliness was an issue for me in the breakfast room with staff sweeping any crumbs from the tables straight on to the floor and just turning place mats over to appear clean. The breakfast choice itself was ok but was not kept hot enough on the buffet. Overall I can easily see why this hotel lost its fifth star and I am very surprised it didn't lose any more than one. I am sorry to say I could not recommend this hotel to any of my friends or family planning a trip to Madrid.

Dear guest, We thank you for your comments and we are very sorry for your negative experience in our hotel. We are making a big effort concerning refurbishing allowing us to offer our guests 148 new rooms - our Club rooms - and we hope to offer a full "new" hotel in the coming months. At the same time, we are addressing your comments concerning Fitness facilities to the Holiday Gym management asking them to review their installations. You can find all information and rules of use concerning Fitness in our web site , in the information booklet in all hotel rooms, as well as in the information panel situated in the hotel Fitness access area. Please accept our apologies. We hope that in spite of this negative experience you give us the opportunity to welcome you here again in the future offering you our best attention. Best regards.

We booked this hotel for a trip we made to see a big football game in Madrid. The location of the hotel is very good - lots of shops and restaurants and very close to the metro. There are also many taxi's lined up outside if you need to take one. The hotel staff are very good - polite, efficient and friendly. We upgraded to a club room so we could get "free wifi" but they failed to tell us that only one user can use the wifi at a time! The absolute worst thing about the hotel is that you were unable turn down the heating at night - it was stuck on 26.5c and it made the room like an oven. I called to reception at 2.30 am and they sent someone up to look at it - he told me that there is no way to alter the temperature during the winter. He opened a window for me but there was a lot of noise from the street which made it equally difficult to sleep. When we complained on check out they didn't charge us for the room upgrade.

Dear guest, We thank your very much for your comments which will help us to improve our services and installations. A new WiFi system was installed in the hotel and we are sorry for the problem that will be solved in a immediate way. New air conditioning system in new rooms will be adjusted to a lower confort temperature, at the time of installations all system was set up to be adjusted manually between 21 and 26 Celsius degrees. Now we are realizing that a lower temperature will be more comfortable for our guests . Thank you for your comments. Best regards.

Very clean and friendly hotel. Location ideal for metro or pleasant walk down to Plaza de Espana and on to centre. Rooms excellant. One complaint, the maid never left milk for the tea tray. Plenty of coffee and tea sachets, despite complaining to reception,no milk appeared.
Yes, breakfast choice same every day, but a very good variety of hot and cold food and drinks so no complaints, infact very good.

Great location, a few meters from metro station.in the neighbourhood there is a big commercial center with supermarket "El corte Inlges". But is a little noisy during the night. The breakfast is the same every day, small variety of food. Free wi-fi only in lobby and only 30 minuts a day!!! And very bad signal. Very small swimming pool.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights in this sleek hotel, which is (fortunately) placed just outside the very busy centre of Madrid. From the booking in, we felt valued as guests and were offered the upgrade (20 euros per night) to the fairly newly refurbished part of the hotel. Having learnt from the opinions of earlier travellers (via tripadvisor) we said YES and were delighted to stay in very voluminous accommodation; not at all oppressive and gave us the feeling of a being in a spacious environment with complimentary water and Wi-Fi. No facility to make a cup of tea or coffee but comfortable nonetheless.

I had realised (tripadviser comments) that we were almost next to the lift shaft but the noise (not 24 hours) was acceptable and did not interfere with relaxation. Noise of ‘those outside’ was perceptible through the ‘hermetically sealed’ window but this was not obtrusive to ‘lying in’. We did not visit the gym or pool facility (although it appeared to be well used) as there’s only so much to fit in for a long weekend! Strangely there is no formal restaurant within the hotel but we had intended to experience Madrid life in the city so this was not a problem for us.

The staff were attentive and happy to have a dialogue in my (poor) Spanish or English and although we had problems with the plumbing at one point (wc would not flush!) this was fixed immediately (having pointed out that the problems was urgent!) Breakfast dining (included in our booking) was extensive, clean and without flaw and sets up the day perfectly.

Faults? None. Would we return yes; especially if the season were different (warmer) for the ample terrace at the front of the hotel looked inviting for sitting out and enjoying a drink or two.
Shopping at the adjacent El Corte Ingles was convenient - if further trips weren’t planned but we enjoyed the walk into ‘Town’ in about 15 minutes away.

Overall a very pleasant ‘weekend away’ and as is our habit, we booked a ‘Hop on Hop off’ Madrid City bus ticket in order to see the general locations available before deciding on the locations to re-visit. Tickets for the museums (Sofia Reina and El Prado) are free on Saturday afternoons and evenings 6 to 8 pm (respectively) so for those not culturally expert (like me) but wishing to view at first hands Picasso, Rafael, Goya etc. timing is essential but all fell into place without effort. Also don’t miss out visiting the extensive street markets at El Rastro on a Sunday when the whole extensive area (each and every street) is awash with stalls catering for every taste.

Should you be thinking of a trip to the capitol city it is certainly worth firm consideration. I had imagined the place to be so extensive as to miss out on lots - but the size is not that large as to think that the sights can’t be covered in a few days.

I hope you will consider the experiences I have outlined and hope that your stay will be as enjoyable (and stress free) as ours!
