“only expensive restaurants and pay attention to your wallets”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2013

it's not a unique "plaza"; you can find more of the same kind all around Spain (in Barcelona you've got a better one named "plaça reial) that has a much more intimate feeling). expensive and not really good restaurants, they are only prepared for turists.

“Pay premium for location”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2012

Was at the plaza mayor and had lunch at one of the outdoor restaurants. The food was mediocre at best and expensive. You are paying for the location.

Have a drink (wine, coffee etc) and enjoy the square. To eat go to the San Miquel Market just outside the west side of the plaza as it is great.
Modern market with multiple stalls selling everything from fruit to seafood to tapas and of course wine. Lots to choose from and very good.

“Just to walk,don't eat here”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2012

Yes, go ad walk this beautiful square and enjoy all the sights and smells. If you want better food at cheaper prices, leave the square. But if you are in the center, don't pass this by.

“Cool place to see”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2012

The Plaza was amazing - the architecture is definitely something to see. Be prepared to get haggled by spider man or some of the other odd "acts" in the square, but the experience is a great one. Enjoy!

“A must to visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2012

One of the central plazas in Madrid, you can find the tourism center here, restaurants, shops, and bars within walking distance. Beware of pickpockets. The street performers can be annoying.
