If you're looking for a break from Spanish food and want something Italian - this is the place to be!

We ordered 4 varieties of pasta - tagliatelle funghi misti, taliolini pesto, pappardelle (or tagliatelle?) with mussels/clams, and another vegetarian style pasta. Everything was fresh, light, made in-house, and absolutely excellent. The complex flavor of the sauces in combination with the handmade pasta rival anything I've had in Italy - and probably one of my favorite Italian places of all time (all countries considered).

Tiramisu was great as well - though not the best I've had in my travels.

The service was very friendly and we felt very welcomed here - unlike many other Spanish establishments we went to during our trip. We barely spoke any Spanish/italian but the server did his best in answering our questions in English - he even took out and showed us plates of different pasta noodles when we had a question about the menu.

The serving is on the small side (though comparable to the serving sizes in Italy as well..) which leaves you wanting something more.

We went for an extended lunch -- once Malatesta opened at 1:30pm. We were the first ones in and by 2:30pm the restaurant was filled. We had a superb meal -- baked provolone appetizer, rucala salad, pizza with tuna fish, pasta with salmon and caviar, pana cota, and a tort. Everything was superb. The service was attentive, the atmosphere charming. Dont miss this fine restaurant.

We dropped in here for sunday lunch recently and were pleasantly surprised. I liked the fresh decor at ground level. Try to book a table at ground level. Appetisers were excellent and the mains were very good. My colleague mentioned that his steak was perfectly cooked but a tad tough. Then again we Irish always find it hard to get steak abroad. The waiters were delightful and helpful. The price was reasonable. The wine was perfect. If you're looking for a pleasnat dining experience in Madrid I can certainly recommend this tasty talian.
