This is one of the nicest flats I've stayed at. It was spacious, decorated with style, and central. The very kind English owner met us off the underground, so there was no uncertainty finding it. She also left all the essential foods, which was very convenient for us on a short stay, plus wine and chocolates!
There were also no add on costs, which can happen.
I recommend it highly.

“good location & helpful owner”
Reviewed November 14, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

The apartment is in a very good location, out of the tourist areas but easy to walk anywhere. It would be a bit hot inside in summer as it is noisy with the doors open. Could do with a few updates, the tv is old. Suggest changing the bedroom decor to a lighter colour - brown sheets are not appealing. Had problems with the wifi whilst we were there, the owners were extremely helpful but the problem persisted.

Management Response
Nov 17, 2015
Yes, as the apartments on one of the main streets in Madrid, there is some traffic noise during the day. You were here at the beginning of October, when it gets very hot in the summer though, the doors are closed so that the A/C can work efficiently. The TV is old yet in good working order and has a reasonably sized screen so, to date, Ive not considered replacing it. Ill take your comments into consideration though and make a decision based on feedback from guests. Had I known you didnt find their colour appealing, the sheet issue would have been easy to sort out ? you could have chosen something more in tune with your taste from a selection that I rotate in the apartment. Im sorry there were glitches with the wifi, it was fortunate that you had your own 4G connection. This temporary fault has been corrected and the internet is up and running again. That said, Ive taken note of your fibre optic recommendation and when its available in the area hope to be able to offer it to guests.

“Perfect position for a Madrid city break.”

Our Host, Mary, was very pleasant and helpful. She provided detailed instructions for us to take the metro from the airport and met us at Arguelles metro station. The apartment is about a 10 minute walk from the metro.

The apartment is on the fourth floor with no lift, but Mary’s partner
helped to carry with our luggage up the stairs. It was spotlessly clean and spacious, the bed was comfortable and the kitchen well -equipped.
Mary had left us a generous welcome pack of bread, butter, juice, milk, biscuits, chocolates and wine.

The apartment is about a 10 minute walk to Plaza de España metro and the Gran Vía.
During our time in Madrid we walked and used the metro, we bought a 7-day ticket at the airport tourist information. We also recommend a trip to Toledo and a visit to the the bullring.

A good place for breakfast, Fogon & Candela, on the corner is worth visiting.

Mary was a gracious hostess, living on the 2nd floor in the same building and proved a font of all knowledge.

We would recommend this apartment and would love to return.

“A fabulous week in Madrid!”

My husband & I stayed 8 nights in Marys' property in Madrid. Mary and her family couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. our computer crashed and they helped us to find a reliable business nearby who fixed the laptop and if anything improved it! The apartment is located near to a metro station, so the entire city as at your feet, excellent restaurants, supermarkets, fruit & veg, bakery etc. The apartment was spotlessly clean, and provided for all of our needs, we would stay there again when visiting Madrid, when we left it was like leaving old friends.

“Perfect Madrid Digs”

First time in Madrid, we arrived barely prepared, i.e., not speaking a word of Spanish, no phrase-book in out pockets and no maps of the city. All we could do was follow Mary's (our host) easy-peasy instructions, which brought us straight to her, waiting patiently at the Metro gates. Mary then warmly welcomed us into the neighbourhood as well as the apartment itself, and helped us break our 3-night's stay into bitesize chunks, so we were able to enjoy the best of Madrid without either cramming too much in, or missing out on the city essentials. Having lived there for almost 40 years, Mary is a true Madrileña, and a valuable source of information, and we are very grateful for all the help, kindness and generosity she had showed us.

As for the apartment, it was very clean and comfortable, with everything you'd need from a city bolthole, and more. The location is great: one day we walked down to The Palacio Real de Madrid, El Rastro Sunday market, and all the way down to Reina Sofia, Prado and Parque del Retiro, then took the Metro back home. The next day, we strolled off in the other direction, through Malasaña and Chueca neighbourhoods, then took a train to the river and walked home from there.

An alltogether great experience, do try it for yourself.

“Ideal location”

Mary Margaret our hostess was really helpful. She sent us directions on the best way to get to the apartment and picked us up from the metro station. She showed us around the apartment, explained where everything was and really made us feel welcome. She also included a welcome pack which was great .... it even had some lovely chocolates in it.

We used a mixture of walking and the metro to see the sights. The metro station is less than 5 mins walk from the apartment ... so handy. There is also a lovely walk from the apartment to the Royal Palace via the local park and the Temple of Debod.

Mary Margaret gave us some ideas and directions on what to include in our sightseeing tour which we hadn't considered ....The Sorolla Museum and El Escorial which are both worth visiting.

On our final day our train didn't leave till late evening. Mary Margaret offered us the opportunity to either leave our cases with her or if there was no booking after us to let us use the apartment till we needed to leave so we didn't have to take our luggage sightseeing with us.

All in all we had a wonderful stay and I would recommend Mary Margaret's apartment

“Perfect Place to stay”

I knew this would be an excellent choice from the first enquiry response I had from the owner, Mary. It was warm and helpful, unlike others who seemed only interested in how much more they could charge for various items. Our flight arrived quite late but not only did Mary not charge us a late check in fee, she came to meet us at the Metro station to escort us back to the apartment. Once there, she had bought us various provisions including milk, butter, bread and even chocolates to make us feel really welcome. The apartment itself is clean and tidy but also has character with the odd assortment of books and CDs. There is an excellent ipod docking station along with a CD player and TV. The double was very comfy and and there are plenty of other useful items including a hair dryer, good bath shower, sewing equipment and even a selection of condiments. The deposit was £150 which we got back with no problem and we even gave it in sterling so we didn't lose out in exchanging. For us, the location was perfect. Although it is about 10 minutes walk from the main centre, it is peaceful so you can get sleep, but there are many bars, cafes and restaurants nearby, mainly frequented by locals. One in particular, Fogon & Candela on the corner is well worth a visit for their reasonable prices, friendly atmosphere and excellent food. There is a Dia supermarket just round the corner on Calle Quintana and the park is minutes down the road. Highly recommended with a personal touch.
