If you're going to be a five-star player, you gotta act like one, and the Ritz Madrid falls short of that. I have no doubts that this was THE place in Madrid at one time, but that was quite a long time ago. Several major miscues by the concierge staff could have been overlooked (including sending a car to the airport for us the day BEFORE we were scheduled to check in --- then making us wait 30 minutes on the day we arrived while they dispatched one) if not for other staff errors and the lack of service and warmth one expects from five stars. Even checking out makes one wonder who takes care of staffing --- there was one harried staffer with a line of anxious checkouts while two concierges were engaged in some kind of animated discussion (why do you need more than ONE concierge at 8:00 a.m.?). Rooms are small, OLD (the a/c system definitely not working well) and nothing special. I probably should have given it three stars but it gets an extra one for the location and the beautiful architecture in the public areas. Having said that, I'll definitely look for another property on my next trip to Madrid!

The room on 6/F is well decorated with great touches of Spanish elegance. It is indeed very spacious, well-maintained and clean. The breakfast is just more than enough to start a long day. Its surrounding is safe for morning/evening walks.

If you are looking for tasteful luxury in a central location close to Prado and other museums then look no further! We had booked through American Express travel and received.a room upgrade. We were on the third floor at the back of the hotel so although no stunning views the room was very quiet and you could easily sleep with the windows open. The room was well appointed and comfortable equipped with Sony flat screen tv and a DVd player. Bathroom was excellent with lavish towels, bathrobes and slippers. Toiletries were by Penhaligon. Large walk in wardrobe gave ample hanging space and an additional walk in cupboard had storage for all the rest of your suitcase contents. The staff are exceptional - helpful, knowledgeable and totally approachable. My only observation is that the check in is tucked away and only has 2 people manning it which at busy times can be a little slow. The public areas are very grand and the Hall is very relaxing often with a piano player at many times of the day. We had a delicious breakfast each day served in glorious surroundings with very attentive staff. Sadly the weather was rather English (cold and wet!) so we were unable to take advantage of the fine open air dining facilities. To conclude this is a traditional unashamed haven of luxury where you can relax from the modern world (though there is excellent wifi in the bedrooms and public areas.

Room Tip: We were in 337. Well appointed spacious and quiet.

Staying at the Ritz hotel on Madrid is a treat indeed. The staff are very welcoming and the are excellent levels of service from all areas of Hotel. Welcoming and friendly staff. The rooms are very well equipped and very traditional in style with lovely marble bathrooms. All public areas are lavish and it is like staying in a palace - king Juan Carlos cannot have finer rooms?! Restaurant has an excellent menu and wine list. Food is wonderful and offers something 'different'.

I stayed for 1 night for business. Elegant looking hotel from the outside and very nice lobby area. Checking in for some reason was slow with a large queue at the time I arrived. The room was OK. A little dated but nicely furnished. There was no separate shower in the bathroom and getting out of the bath was a bit awkward so be careful. The gym was well equipped and not particularly busy. The breakfast room was small for the size of the hotel and I had to wait for a table to become free which is when you have a busy schedule is frustrating. The buffet was reasonable although choice could have been wider. Location of the hotel is excellent convenient to most things in Madrid. Overall an enjoyable stay although service could have been better.

This is obviously a great hotel. My trip last week was my second to The Ritz Madrid in the last 18 months, and I was eager to return. The room decor was classically elegant, the bathroom was a marble masterpiece, and the outdoor Terrace is one of my favorite places in the world to have an afternoon snack and read the paper.

But if you're traveling on business and need to work in the room, it's a bit challenging. The WiFi is good but not great, there are only two power outlets within reach, and the work space is actually a small secretary without room for accessories, papers, books, etc.

I still think The Ritz is well worth the visit, especially since the Prado is around the corner. I'll just leave my computer at home next trip.
