“Fantastic Hotel”
Reviewed February 21, 2010

Have stayed at the Westin Madrid multiple times on business over the past few years. There is nothing to complain about - this is a wonderful property that is very well known in Madrid and which Westin bought in a great decision. In my mind the best place to stay in Madrid.

The location is amazing - near all the major museums, close to downtown, and close to the airport. The staff are professional and friendly and always helpful. There are tapas bars around the corner as well, which aren't bad.

The lobby is beautiful, and so are the rooms. Was upgraded last time I stayed into a junior suite and it was spacious, well appointed, and great. And like most Westin's, the bed was amazing. The gym is also well appointed with modern equipment.

I should add the food is also good and while expensive, about what I'd expect to pay in a luxury hotel.

Overall a great property which will always be my first choice when traveling to Madrid.

My husband and I have traveled all over the world and never have we had better service. Everyone from the front desk, Concierges, resturants, bellman, and maid service were excellent. They did everything they could to make you happy.

The hotel and our suite were beautiful and impeccable. Room service was extremely quick and always presented properly.

The location was perfect. It was right in the middle of all the must things to see, but still, there was very little street noise. On the weekend there was a band playing in the park which was a lovely serenade.

On a Sunday, our last day there, I became ill. They had a Dr. there in less than an hour . They took my perscriptions and got them filled when all the pharmacies were closed.
I cannot say enough good things!

We arrived at the Westin Palace early in the morning but we were given immediate access to a room. It was a fine room but we asked if we could swap for one with an outside view and a bath instead of a shower. This request was immediately met and we were shown a new room by an extremely helpful member of staff (Peggy Joan Ziemann) and in the course of the move I mentioned it was my partner's birthday. When we came back from dinner that evening we found a cake with Happy Birthday Peter in icing, a bottle of cava and a card with best wishes. The expansive buffet breakfast was an excellent start to the day, beautiful food, beautiful surroundings and an attentive staff. The bed was one of the best hotel Beds I've experienced with fine cotton sheets and a choice of pillows. Thank God for goose down! The location was so good we walked everywhere and hardly used our travel passes. Getting there was very easy. We took the metro from the airport to a nearby station. Altogether a great stay. We will definitely return.

Spent several nights at the Palace on recent trip with wife. Hotel exceeded expectations on all levels. Got really good deal on Priceline.

The hotel is in a perfect location between the museums and tourist areas. There is lots of construction right outside the hotel involving street rebuilding. To towards the city center you have to deal with it. Did not cause lots of issues, but sure that lead to the good pricing.

The airport is new and very nice but far from Madrid. Cab ride is was nice but be ready to spend about 35-euro.

Check-in was quick and easy. Lobby is very nice. Small elevator (typical of European hotels). Room was good sized and very clean/neat. We did not spend much time in room, but all was good regarding amenities. We did not eat at the hotel but the Rotunda Restuarant was very impressive.

Madrid is very easy to walk around. We spend one whole day exploring the city on our way to the Royal Palace. The streets were very exciting. Around every corner was something interesting regarding architecture, plaza, historical area, park, etc. It was a Saturday and lots of people and events including kids. Really enjoyed walking everywhere from Americans who love our cars!

We were disappointed in the food. Nothing against the restuarants, just our sensibilities towards lots of fish and such. Once we got to the seafood paella, I was in fine!

We did a dinner flamenco show. It was very interesting, entertaining and not what I was expecting. More to it than meets the eye on TV. Recommend it.

Looking forward to returning to Madrid soon.

We were on our honeymoon in Europe. London, Paris and Madrid. Also stayed in NYC for a few days. All other places stayed in Hilton Hotel chains. But the best hotel by far, with the best staff was the Westin. As soon as i got there i was upgraded to a better room, and had complimentary champagne and chocalates, for being on my honeymoon. The hotel is majestic, very nicely located, everything was perfect.

TIP. for free internet head down to the starbucks in the back part of the building. Completely free.

My wife and I stayed at the Palace for a night Jan the 23rd. We live in Madrid, and come here often for drinks or café. We just celebrated our 6 month anniversary by staying at the Palace for a night.

The Hotel:

The interior design of the hotel is absolutely exquisite, I won't try to describe it, but I would recommend that you look at photos uploaded by other, and as well as the SPG website. The beds as another person has noted, are phenominal. Everything you would expect from a 5 star.

The hotel has no pool, but offers an excellent workout center, and besides you are going to be walking enough anyway in Madrid.

There are two areas to have drinks, the main dining room (with the famous dome roof), and the hotel bar, which feels like a quaint british pub.

We were given an upgraded room (with my SPG gold status), and complimentary breakfast. The breakfast buffet is really quite good, it includes the normal items, as well as things like Cava (Spanish Champagne) and Salmon. They also offer eggs cooked to order (for omelletes etc). There is even a live Opera brunch on Sundays (for an extra charge)

The Area:

It is situated on the beautiful round-about called Plaza Neptune. The Prado is right across the way, as is the Ritz Hotel (which is more expensive, but I think the Palace is nicer.) This hotel has alot of history, it was founded in 1912 and has been around as Spain changed over the last century. The likes of Hemingway used to frequent this hotel, and they have named one of their ballrooms after him.

For starbucks lovers, there is one within 30 seconds of the front door.

The famous Retiro park is also about a 5 minute walk away, in the same direction you can arrive at the trendy neighborhood of Salamanca, and walk the street of Calle Serrano and looking all the shops.

The hotel is located in the well know Madrid neighborhood "Barrio de las letras". An area known for action and night life. From the front door of the Hotel you can be having tapas in the Plaza de Santa within 5 minutes. The hotel is footsteps away from the action packed street Calle Huertas (a pedestrian street known for restaurants, bar and night clubs). Two of my favorites in the area, Populart a well known jazz club with live Jazz from 11pm onward. La Cabaña, an Argentinian steakhouse, with around Ruth's Chris level filets.

Transportation:

The closest Metro is Banco de España, about a 5 minute walk towards the Grand Via.
The major train station Atocha is very close, a cab ride of less than 5€.
There are a number of city bus stops on the round about.
Taxis are always lined up next to the front door.

From the Airport (Barajas, MAD):

A taxi will cost around 35€.

The metro is 2€

Line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios
Line 6 to Cuatro Caminos
Line 2 to Banco de España
Walk strait down the Paseo de Prado, you will be able to see the Hotel sign almost immediately.
