For my first trip to Madrid, the Westin served as an amazing base. I was upgraded to a fantastic suite (room 635) do to my SPG Platinum status (it pays to be loyal!). Rodrigo at the reception dest went above and beyond...estorting me out the front door of the hotel and pointing out Cash Machine options and other nearby attractions. The Concierge was able to get us amazing seats for a bull fight that turned out to be the highlight of our visit. We even met the Matadors in the Lobby of the hotel prior to the fight. When we walked outside there were camera ready crords waiting to see these celebrities.

The Westin Palace Madrid....Fantastic!

We spent 4 nights at the Westin Palace. It was a very pleasureable stay. Our room overlooked the dome so was very quiet at night, we slept very well. Our room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. The hotel is in a perfect location for exploring Madrid and we would certainly stay here again.

We spent four lovely nights at the Westin Palace in mid-May, and I don't think we could have chosen a better hotel. We were given a room on the sixth floor, where all the rooms were labelled "Starwood Preferred Guest". If you haven't joined SPG already, it is worthwhile to do so to ensure a room on this (the highest) floor. The room looked exactly like all the pictures of rooms in previous reviews. The room faced the interior dome, so no views - but no noise either. A great tradeoff in our opinion. I suppose the furniture is a bit dated...but a nice change from the ultramodern design in many hotels in Spain. It was a Heavenly Bed and we loved the two-headed Heavenly Shower too. There is morning coffee in the foyer on the sixth floor, and a great workout room adjoining a sunny rooftop terrace with nice views of the city.

We had a great rate through hotels.com which included breakfast. It's an excellent buffet served under that fabulous dome...a terrific way to start the day. On Sunday, there was an Opera Brunch in the dining room. At 65 euros, we passed on the brunch, but did have a drink and listened for awhile...a fun change of pace.

It is a fabulous location; just a short walk to all the art museums, the Botanical Garden and Retiro park, and the Atocha train station. For dining and nightlife, the Plaza Santa Ana is a short stroll in the evening. And the Hop On/Off bus stops at the corner, which is a convenient way to tour the city and get to sights on the other side of old Madrid, like the Palacio Real.

And what a safe location! The Spanish president was addressing the Congress while we were there - right across the street from the hotel. There were a half dozen police on every corner for blocks. There was a metal detector set up in the lobby, though curiously guests didn't have to go through it. It's one of the only times I used an ATM on the street (and never felt uneasy with a couple dozen police with 25 meters).

My only complaint was the boring and clubby-stuffy bar, and the rude attendants in the bar area. One woman in particular - Christine - was extraordinarily rude to us on 3 different occasions. Fortunately, we found the Plaza Santa Ana about that time and never went near the bar again. Hopefully the Westin will do something to correct this problem, as the rest of the staff was very kind and helpful.

I stayed in the westin in madrid for 5 nights, location is just perfect and close to everything, but here are few things that I didn't expect, and I'm comparing westin here with other westin in asia, the room location aws looking at the dome of the resturant so no view, receptionists not really friendly, rooms furniture are a bit old, the room had no bathrobe u have to ask for it, the slippers are not there u have to ask, shower gelwas not in the room u have to ask for it, one piece of soap and 1 bottle of shampoo, water not provided complimentry but u have also to ask for it daily, I asked for apersonal scale, i gota broken one, shame on Westin in Europe really, other than u have to ask for every thing in the room, I enjoyed the stay ,the food and the city, no way to compare this hotel to the high level of service you always get in asia, and I had similar experience in Paris westin as well , so I figured out that that is the European standard

You cannot beat this location in Madrid. Right around the corner from Prado and Thyssen, short walk to El Retiro, a longer walk but still close to the Royal Palace. A minute walk to Plaza Santa Ana with great outdoor cafes by day and a fun nightlife. Markets right around the corner with large bottles of water for 1 euro.

Rooms are large which is unusual in Europe. Beds are comfortable and the room was quiet.

None of my cons would be reason to not stay here because the location is so perfect and the rooms are great but they should be mentioned . . . Cons - Staff is stuffy and the entire hotel has that vibe. We were given inaccurate data regarding what days different museums were open or closed. We wanted to see a bull fight and were told to buy tickets illegally from scalpers outside the ring since tickets were impossible to get. When we arrived there were police everywhere so we figured we would ask the ticket stand what to do. We were sold tickets right away for 6 euro each. The hotel told us from scalpers we should pay at least 50 euro. The breakfast is really expensive and mediocre. In fact everything at the hotel is really expensive -- 9 euro espresso, etc . . .

You can't beat the combination of the hotel's location and the actual hotel product. You can literally walk to everything....the three museums, the Plaza Mayor, retaurants and all the other sites. This is a huge convenience! Plus, if you want to take a day trip outside the city, the train station is a short walk away.

The guest rooms were very spacious, up to date and immaculate. The Westin Heavenly Bed was a real treat. We got a great deal on Expedia that included breakfast, which is served every morning in their gorgeous Rotunda. What a fabulous way to start the day! One of the best hotel breakfasts we have ever experienced!

I highly recommend this hotel for your trip to Madrid.....it's outstanding!
