“Coffee at Westin Palace”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

I did not stay at this hotel but it is a must visit for coffee. It is open to the public and it will be your most expesive coffee in Madrid but just to sit under the leaded glass domed ceiling dining room it is a must see visit. Typical cost for a cortado (small coffee) about six euros.

Stayed as a family. Great service and very nice hotel.Across the street from 2 major museums. A few blocks from train station and easy walking to restaurants and shopping. Loved it! Would definitely go back again.

This is a newly renovated stately old hotel however the decor doesn't quite do the building justice.  Neither modern nor traditional the resulting effect is more shabby than chic.  The highlight is clearly the grand ballroom (now a coffee shop/restaurant) with a beautiful dome filled with golden butterflies.  Where the hotel really excelled was the concierge desk.  The staff were amazing, they knew what they were doing and were efficient.  They made excellent recommendations and followed up with bookings and reservations. The location of the hotel is perfect so would recommend to anyone staying in Madrid.

This is my third visit to this hotel and it never dissapoints! The location is fantastic and within walking distance of many of Madrid's landmarks. The rooms are very comfortable and the hotel is incredibly beautiful. The staff could not be more helpful. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Madrid!

Very grand & opulent hotel--the lobby, restaurant, & rooms. Staff very helpful--from the receptionist to the concierge. Ideal location for tourists--can quickly go to popular sites or visit non touristy places.

Our one week stay at the Westin Palace Hotel in Madrid was somewhat disappointing. The property is absolutely beautiful. The décor is fantastic. Very clean and well maintained. The housekeeping is meticulous.

We reserved our room several months in advance and paid in advance in order to save 30%.

Now for the negatives. The worse problem was the TV system. The installed a PC based system and it is the worse I´ve ever seen. VERY difficult to operate and the selection is very limited UNLESS you pay an additional €27 per day. In addition, the system crashed frequently and it was down entirely for several hours over two days. It is obvious they are trying to milk their guests for extra Euros. They need to scrap the computer based system and go back to an easy to use TV system with a decent selection of channels.

The next big negative is the lack of free WiFi in the rooms. €28 per day for WiFi in the room. They offer a very slow WiFi in the lobby and the lobby is often crowded with many taking advantage of it.

Their restaurant is extremely expensive. We generally like to have at least one nice meal in our hotel but, since we are not wealthy, we could not do it here.

Finally, we were not impressed with the friendliness of most of the staff. The Reception Desk staff were very friendly and pleasant, as were the housekeepers. The Councierge staff and bellman were courteous but did not act like they really wanted to be of service. This was our experience over a full 7 days stay so it was not just one or two people. I believe they need to act like they are very happy to serve me and that, at that moment, I am the most important person in the world.

Overall, I probably would choose another hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Park. Reserve online and pay in advance to get a 30% discount.

Dear Tripadvisor
Thank you for your nice comments regarding the housekeeping, clean well maintained hotel and the friendly reception staff and housekeepers
Regarding the TV system we offer 66 free TV Channels in different languages (english, spanish, french, portuguese, arabic, chines, italian, russian, german and corean)
We also offer a pay per view of movies and internet at 29 euros + vat
Internet for a charge in the guest rooms (except for Gold and Platinum SPG members who can choose this as an amenity) or free in public areas including the business center. We indeed had some preventive maintenance during your stay and I apologize for the inconveniences
Our restaurant also offers Tapas options and a daily menu at 37.50€ (VAT included)
As to our staff you a right; we need to treat you as the most important guests in the world. I regret some did not give you that feeling
Best regards

This is the second time I have stayed at the Westin Palace. The hotel is beautiful and very conveniently located. It is across the street from the Thyssena and the Prado. Also a very easy walk to the Palace, Plaza Mayor, Reina Sofia, and Retiro Park. The rooms were very comfortable and pleasantly appointed. The stained glass dome is the perfect place to have a cocktail or a cup of coffee. We also really enjoyed the bar. The drinks are pricey but awesome and the atmosphere is very comfortable.
