“Terrific Location”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

My partner and I stayed four nights at the Place in mid-October which is a great time to visit Madrid for cooler weather and smaller crowds. It presents a premier location for all of the tourist sites and is walking distance to most of the attractions as well as some very nice dinning.
I dislike paying for internet service but the hotel does provide free wi-fi in the lobby areas as well as free access to a very good business center with printing services for things like boarding passes and updated attraction hours and directions.
A very nice touch is the offer to deliver coffee without the customary room service charge once a day... fast and delicious!
Here is my beef for a hotel that has just finished renovations for the celebration of it's first 100 years. This hotel presents significant challenges for older people and those with disabilities. There are stairs and no ramp to get in the front door which frequently lacks a doorman. Next is a steep flight of stairs to get to the elevator access area after completing check-in. It was a frequent site to see people struggle with bags or a cain to pass through these areas.
A trip for more budget minded travelers: attached to the hotel and next to the Starbucks is an excellent connivence for snacks or a bottle of wine at a fraction of what you would spend in the hotel. It also has a very good restaurant attached to the store with excellent breakfast for less than 5 euro.

Room Tip: Interior rooms are very quiet and offer the opportunity to open a window for some fresh air

Dear Tripadvisor
Thank you for your nice review. The hotel is classified as “historic building” – On October 12th we celebrated our 100th anniversary
From an architectural point of view this means that by law we are very limited in adding ramps. At the main entrance we have 3 steps and added some hand rails
Apart from the flight of stairs to and from the elevators area there is another elevator that allows guests to avoid the stairs but the elevator is in the back of the house a few steps from the lobby.
One of our associates can help you to access. We will improve the signage of this additional access. Thank you for bringing this to my attention
Best personal regards

Recently stayed at the Westin Palace Hotel in Madrid for two nights in October 2012. The hotel celebrated it's 100th birthday this year. It is located in a fantastic location. Easy walk to the Prado and Retiro park. Also, there are many wonderful restaurants in the immediate vicinity. The room was large and comfortable for an older hotel. The decor is relaxed and elegant. I was pleasantly surprised how large the bathroom was in our room. There was a large tub/shower with a rain shower head, double vanity with plenty of counter space for toiletries, and a separate area for the toilet. The bed was indeed heavenly as advertised. My only gripe was the price for internet access in the room. It was extremely cheap for something that is lightly used when traveling. Obviously, they are trying to make revenue from corporate travelers that have no choice and can expense the cost over the vacationer who needs to email back home or get some local info. There is free wifi in the lobby fortunately, but that can be somewhat of a hassle when you just need to do a quick email check or map out a restaurant for dinner. For the American coffee junkie, there is a Starbucks located in the same building just around the corner from the main entrance. Oddly, the free wifi from the hotel works there, so grab some coffee and surf.

Room Tip: This is a large hotel, so a room closer to the elevator bank might save a bit of walking.

Have stayed a number of times since the 90's at The Palace, but had not been to Madrid for a few years and was a bit concerned when we booked as The Palace is now part of a chain. Very glad to report that it will still be our hotel of choice in Madrid. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. The breakfasts - albeit pricey - are still wonderful - and served under that magnificent dome!! We ate twice in The Asia Gallery and on both occasions our food was delicious - and the setting beautiful.
Location of The Palace is perfect - close to most of the museums, Retiro Park and other sites as well as many good restaurants within walking distance.
Looking forward to our next stay!

The location is perfect if you are a tourist . . . just a minutes walk to the Prado Museum and other sites. Also, there were a lot of really good restaurants nearby. My wife and I stayed here for three nights . . . must say that overall the quality and comfort was that of a five star hotel, but something seemed to be missing. Frankly, I think this hotel warrants more of a four star rating . . . although the prices do remind one it is a "5-Star" hotel! For example, I have to work online when traveling, so I should mention the Internet service in the room is a bit expensive . . . and the phone calls ridiculously so! The service in general, especially the folks at the concierge desk, was first rate! We checked in very early and they were very kind to have given us a room right away . . . they did warn us that there would be demonstrations outside and to expect some noise. That noise was not controllable, but the fact that the maids and household help spoke in the hallways every morning full voiced was. This was a real problem as they woke me up twice. We had a premium King room and we were very pleased with it . . . very comfortable with plenty of space! The bed was great! In my opinion, the hotel did not provide much in terms of amenities for the star rating. Overall, I think if you want a great location with a real comfortable room and a nice bed, this place is fine; however, if you are at all concerned about your budget, I suspect one can find something much cheaper without losing that much quality.

Having read the fantastic reviews on TA, I was convinced that this was "the hotel" to book for a 3 night stay in Madrid near the Paseo del Prado.

I cannot fault the beautiful building, the ideal location or the helpfulness and courteousness of the staff. Those were all first rate.

My only complaint is that there was either a club night or the wedding reception that had club music going throughout the night until about 4am. Despite my room being on the 5th floor I was unable to sleep until after the music had shut down. Not ideal considering the nightly rates here and I think I would check out other hotels were I to stay in Madrid again.

The Palace Hotel oozes class and shows why it has been around for 100 years. The location near the Prado Museum and Retiro Park make this a perfect location for walking. Big hotels can feel sterile, but the Palace feels comfortable. Our room was large, with a Westin's signature heavenly bed. The concierge was very very helpful. My luggage had been lost, and the concierge took all the details and followed up regularly with the airline.

Wifi is expensive in the room, but there is free wifi in the comfortable lobby.

Stayed here on business. Friendly, efficient check-in, lobby is very nice and impressive. Disappointed I was given a twin room rather than the double I'd requested. Room was well appointed though, large TV, comfortable bedding etc, beautiful old world style. Central location is nice, there are a couple of other hotels in the very near vicinity as well as the congress..Internet was included in my room rate of c EUR400.

The room I had was unfortunately not soundproofed at all so didn't enjoy a very good night's sleep as could hear people in the corridor chattering throughout the night. There are designated rooms for SPG members.

The restaurant is beautiful, has a very impressive dome. Service was excellent, really enjoyed the dinner although must say it was very pricey for both food and drinks (c. EUR 16 for a cocktail). Breakfast was very nice and again friendly service. Price of EUR31maybe a bit on the high side nonetheless.

Overall a very nice hotel, but for the price I'd consider others if was travelling for leisure and for a business trip I'd consider my alternatives as well to get a better night's sleep.

Room Tip: Not soundproofed very well at all so would recommend high floor and as far from the lifts as possibl...
