Great location the hotel has a pick up service by mini bus to and from the Airport for 10 euros phone the hotel direct to organize .We really enjoyed our 3 night break.Location by Cortes Ingais dept store and Sol Metro the metro is safe and clean high security .Great cheap Tapas y Canas bar at the bottom of the street.Although the wall paper in the room was a bit tired looking but extremely clean ,the lovely dinning room and service make up for the less glamorous room decor. The staff ware really helpful. Good value for money ...please visit the Bar los Angeles in Calle Costanilla los Angeles a five minute walk from Calle Arenal turn right follow the road about 4 streets down free tapa with every drink and free peanuts in a big wooden basket ,everyone throws the shells on the floor ,wonderful place and so cheap .

Location, Location, Location .... absolutely brilliant location slap bang in the hustle and bustle of Madrid, therefore a short walk to almost anything or anywhere that you would want to go. Not the most cleanest/modern hotel in the world but it is good value for money and i assume that you will not be staying in the hotel all day and night anyway ;-). Madrid is excellent for a weekend away, even in Oct weather is warm so ideal for strolling around. Lots of nice places to eat, go off the main square onto side streets for best food places for authentic food and much cheaper food too. enjoy you will have a great time !!!!

Just back from a short stay in Madrid. I can totally recommend this hotel.
Perfect position in center of Madrid just off Puerta del Sol and shopping areas. Very convenient big department store nearby.
The staff are extremely helpful, friendly and will really try to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

The rooms are very clean, standard size for a city hotel, free Wi Fi.
There is a nice quiet spacious lounge to relax in with free internet access. There is also a 'happy hour' at night time with beer tastings etc although I didn't avail of this.
I got the door to door coach transfer to the airport this morning which was very reasonable
In summary- I can highly recommended this hotel and I want to thank the hotel staff.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony.

The location is the best thing about this hotel. One can walk to just about all the major attractions in Madrid. Security at the hotel seems good. The room is functional, meeting all the basic needs and very clean. But if you are seeking a romantic getaway, this is not the place. The air condition worked well, which was essential for this time of the year. I did detect cigarette smoking on a what supposed to be a non-smoking floor. The hotel staff was friendly and geninuely tried to be helpful. The breakfast (extra cost) was reasonably good with lots of choices. Overall, I think their prices are very competitive.

Room Tip: The higher floors are noise-free.

Thank you for sharing your comments with the community. It's great to know that all in all you enjoyed your stay with us, an abive all our unbeatable location.I apologize for the cigarrette smell on your non-smoking floor but I'm afraid there is not much we can do with people who do not respect smoking restrictions :(
It would be a great honor to have you back at our hotel your next time in Madrid.

This hotel is in an ideal location off one of the pedestrian streets just north of the plaza Puerta del sol and south of the Plaza del Callao on the Gran Via. Easy walking distance to the palace and a longer but not overwhelming distance to the Prado.

It seemed like the FF&E (furniture, fixtures & equipment) were recently remodeled, in that the porcelan, floors, hardware and doors were all in near-new condition. Very clean bathroom, and the rooms (we had 2) were clean as well. All in all, a good 3-star hotel. Our only complaint was the air conditioning which seemed to be more than adquate on the 1st night, but didn't seem to keep up on the 2nd. Not a big complaint.

Don't expect to drive a car right up to the front door, the nearest pickup point is about a half block downhill. We picked up a car for additional touring so we cant attest to parking.

Lots of places to dine nearby, but for breakfast head up to the Gran Via where you can get a panini, cofffee and juice for only about 2.75 euros at the place next to the Starbucks.

Room Tip: Don't know about a room, but you can get a yellow 24h bus from the airport to the plaza de cibel...

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with the community. It's great to know you enjoyed your stay although your problems with air conditioning on the second night.
Let me just precise you that we are in effect located on a pedestrian street but hotel guests are allowed to reach our door with their cars at any time for pick up or load-unload luggage. In case you decide to visit us back you might enjoy this advantage, together with our varied breakfast ;)

Recently stayed at the Best Western Carlos V Hotel in Madrid. The location is perfect; just two minutes from Puerta del Sol and five minutes from Plaza Mayor. The hotel is quiet even though it is right in the centre of the city. The rooms are very clean and well equipped, although the bathroom is a little small. The air conditioning is wonderful and very easy to operate. The breakfast was a lovely surprise too because we thought we were only going to get a continental breakfast, but there was bacon, scrambled eggs and sausages as well and endless coffee. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and all speak English. For a city break in Madrid, I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: Ask for room overlooking the street.

We were a group of 3 families staying here recently for 3 nights. Hotel Carlos V was convenient, clean, and with a friendly and helpful staff, both at the desk and in the dining room. The location was the main attraction, very close to Puerta del Sol, with lots of restaurants and shops nearby, as well as the metro and the hop-on hop-off tourist bus. Breakfast in their lovely dining room is an option; standard hotel offerings but the hot dishes were well cooked and everything, hot or cold, was nicely presented.
