“English guided tour was worth it!!!”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

My husband and I made sure we didn't leave Madrid without visiting the Royal Palace. On our last day in the city, we lined up 20minutes before the Royal Palace opened (we were second in line). We bought tickets for the English guided tour which was to start at 10:30am. It was like a private tour because there was just one other gentleman with us in the tour. Our tour guide, Lola, is the best tour guide ever. She was professional, knowledgeable, and passionate about her job. The tour was adequately paced. It covered the highlights of the Palace. We even got to tour some rooms that were not open to the general public; I felt like a VIP being ushered into a room cordoned off to the rest of the tourists.

I highly recommend the guided tour to those who are pressed for time. I thought it was worth every penny.

“Uplifting and Beautiful”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

Far grander than Versailles and more beautiful. The self guided tour with audio is a MUST. You will be amazed at the splendor and beauty of this palace. With vibrant colors and beautiful chandeliers and murals, you will be amazed and uplifted.

“Go for it even if there's a queue”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

Beautiful palace. The rooms are stunning with walls and curtains all matching. The doors leading from room to room all have curtains gently held aside with more matching curtains. Well worth a visit. The art collection and exhibition was lovely - not too much and a nice mixture.

“Great way to spend 2 hours”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

We um-ed and ah-ed whether we had time to visit the Palace, given we only had 2 1/2 hours until we had to head home... & with a 30 minute queue to get in, it didn't look good, but we went for it... & it was a perfect "fit" - 2 hours and you can do it all, at a sensible pace.

We took the audio headphone option, which we strongly recommend, as whilst each room has a card explaining what it is in English, it is very basic - the audio tour gives you all the history and background. There were 20+ "stops" to get commentary, which was about right.

The house itself is beautiful - especially the ceilings - but also the paintings, tapestries and wall coverings. It was busy, but not onerously.

Probably the lowlight was the armoury, which is the last trip on the tour... but only because it was very hard to work out where you were on the audio tour... & each "stop" was about 10 minutes long, so the commentary became long & boring... whereas the commentary for the main house was just right... but only a minor gripe.

If you need something to do for a couple of hours, this is the answer... although don't forget the time to get your ticket! With the audio guide, it was €30 for two.
